Ministry Official Seizes Over 100,000 Substandard Toys Worth More Than 2 Million Baht
Deputy Minister Yossing's team, led by advisor Padat Worakarnon, conducted a raid on the Sampeng 2 area in Bang Khae, Bangkok, seizing a large batch of unstandard toys. The operation was initiated after receiving complaints from local residents about the widespread sale of substandard toys. The team found a 4-story, 4-unit building owned by Ms. Peng Jingxuan, a Chinese national. During the search, they discovered 103,609 imported toys of various types and sizes, lacking proper Thai Industrial Standards (TIS) markings or displaying incorrect markings. The total value of the seized toys exceeded 2 million baht. The operator faces potential legal consequences, including up to 6 months in prison and fines of up to 500,000 baht. Officials warned that substandard toys pose significant risks to children, potentially containing harmful chemicals like lead, mercury, and phthalates that can damage brain development. Additionally, toys with small parts risk choking, and those with wheels or uncontrolled pressure mechanisms can cause physical injuries. Consumers are advised to always check for TIS marks and QR codes before purchasing toys, especially online, and to avoid suspiciously cheap products. Those who encounter non-standard products can report them through the TISI website, Facebook page, or QR code on products.
