Suchart Orders Monitoring of Koh Yao Yai Seawater to Prevent Impact on People and Tourism
Deputy Prime Minister Suchart Chom-klin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, is tracking wastewater emerging at Lo Pa-het Beach in Moo 7, Phru Nai Subdistrict, which flows into the sea. The beach is the longest on Koh Yao Yai and is popular among tourists. He has ordered the Pollution Control Department to closely monitor environmental quality and coordinate urgent resolution. Pollution Control Department officials have conducted initial investigations, finding black water traces from community and hotel drainage systems despite high tide obscuring direct observation of waste pipes. They collected water samples from two locations and recommended immediate actions including sludge removal, microbial treatment, and accelerated construction of community wastewater treatment systems.
