Just Out of Hospital 5 Days, Man with Mental Illness Burns Down Entire House Believing Spirits Possessed Home

A 58-year-old man, recently discharged from the hospital after mental health treatment just 5 days prior, experienced hallucinations believing spirits were present in his home. On February 15, 2026, police from Bamnet Narong Police Station in Chaiyaphum Province were notified of a house fire in Moo 11, Ban Phet Subdistrict. Fire officials arrived and found a two-story wooden house with an open ground floor engulfed in flames. They spent approximately 45 minutes preventing the fire from spreading to neighboring houses. The homeowner, a 58-year-old psychiatric patient still undergoing treatment, had just been released from Bamnet Narong Hospital. Experiencing hallucinations and believing spirits were in his home, he set fire to 'exorcise' them. Authorities immediately transferred him back to Bamnet Narong Hospital for continued treatment.
