Vote Buying Spreads Widely, Chuan Sends Letter to Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary Demanding Neutrality of Local Officials

On February 3, 2024, Chuan Leekpai, former Prime Minister and Democrat Party parliamentary list candidate, sent a letter to the Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary requesting strict guidance for government officials to remain neutral and impartial. Chuan highlighted reports of state officials, particularly local administrative leaders, collaborating with certain political groups to buy and sell votes. He noted that despite the Election Commission's oversight, the administrative sector has a critical role in ensuring election integrity. Chuan specifically mentioned that vote buying behaviors have spread to Trang province and urged the Permanent Secretary to ensure all personnel from central and local government maintain neutrality during the upcoming February 8 general election.
