24 Thai Nationals Arrested Attempting Illegal Border Crossing to Cambodia for Fake Bank Account Scheme
Twenty-four Thai nationals were arrested attempting to illegally cross into Cambodia near Aranyaprathet, where they were being recruited to open fraudulent bank accounts for a scam worth 25,000 baht per person.
On May 13, 2025, Northeastern Task Force units from the 13th Ranger Regiment's Khlong Haat Special Operations unit, working with local administrative officials, arrested 24 Thai nationals—12 men and 12 women—as they traveled through forest trails near the border village of Non Sawaeo, Phan Suk Subdistrict, Aranyaprathet District, Saruek Province. All 24 suspects admitted during initial questioning that brokers had recruited them to cross into Cambodia to open fraudulent bank or "horse" accounts in exchange for 25,000 baht each. Thai facilitators transported them to the border area where Cambodian handlers were to collect them. All suspects were taken for further investigation at the 13th Ranger Regiment control center before being transferred to Khlong Nai Sai Police Station in Aranyaprathet District for formal legal proceedings.
