27 Suspects In Fake Birth Registration Scheme Denied Bail
A court denied bail for all 27 suspects arrested in a sprawling fake birth registration scheme involving Thai and Chinese nationals who fraudulently obtained documents for foreign children, with government officials implicated.
On July 11 at the Central Fraud and Malfeasance Court on Railway Road, the Metropolitan Police Command presented findings from an operation dismantling the "Pho Thip-Mae Thip" fake birth notification network. Suspects—both Thai and Chinese nationals—are accused of creating fraudulent documents to secure rights for foreign children, with government officials and medical staff implicated. Twenty-seven individuals face charges under the Criminal Code (Articles 83, 86, 137, 157, 162, 267, 268), the Registration Act B.E. 2534 (Article 50), and the Anti-Corruption Act. All 27 were brought before the court requesting detention. While 26 filed bail requests, the court denied all, citing serious criminal conduct organized as a network involving both Thai and foreign nationals and posing a threat to national security. Investigators opposed bail release, leading authorities to transfer all suspects to Bangkok Special Prison and the Central Women's Prison.
