Phone Shop Owner Questioned After Unknowingly Buying Stolen iPhone

A phone shop owner in Pathum Thani faced police questioning after unknowingly buying a stolen iPhone 17 Pro Max that had its security system illegally removed, prompting him to warn others in the industry about widespread device unlocking f

3h ago Khaosod

Ritthichak Danudet, owner of a mobile phone shop in Lam Luak Khlong 2, Pathum Thani, posted a warning after nearly facing criminal charges for unknowingly purchasing a stolen iPhone.

On June 25, a vendor sold him an iPhone 17 Pro Max for 42,500 baht. The shop conducted routine checks and found no security locks, so he posted it for resale and scheduled a pickup appointment.

When the customer arrived on June 26, six undercover detectives appeared instead and brought the shop owner to a police station. There he met with the complainant and learned that the phone belonged to a company that had sold it with a down payment arrangement. However, the device's MDM (Mobile Device Management) security system had been removed and the phone illegally resold. The company had traced the device to his shop.

After discussion and explanation, police confirmed that the shop owner had made a standard purchase from an ordinary vendor and documented the case for further legal action.

The shop owner warned others in the mobile phone industry to be extremely cautious during this period of widespread device unlocking fraud. He urged police to quickly apprehend those involved in removing security locks, as their actions make legitimate business very difficult.

Neymar Fires Back At Mathematician's Failed World Cup Prediction

Brazilian star Neymar mocked German mathematician Joachim Clement after his World Cup prediction that Japan would beat Brazil proved spectacularly wrong—Brazil won 2-1 instead.

3h ago Khaosod

Brazilian star Neymar has responded to a German mathematician's prediction that Japan would defeat Brazil in the World Cup Round of 32. Joachim Clement, a German mathematician and data analyst, became famous for accurately predicting World Cup champions three consecutive times: Germany in 2014, France in 2018, and Argentina in 2022. For the 2026 World Cup, Clement used a computational model combining various factors including per capita GDP, weather conditions, FIFA world rankings, and luck variables. He predicted the Netherlands would win the championship and potentially face Portugal in the final, and included a forecast that Japan would beat Brazil. "I don't make predictions for individual group stage matches, but I expect we might see Brazil facing Japan in the final Round of 32, and Japan will defeat Brazil," Clement said in his prediction. "At first, it may seem unbelievable to me because Brazil is the most successful team in World Cup history, but the current players are not in their best form, whereas Japan has an excellent team right now." However, Clement's predictions proved entirely wrong: the Netherlands was eliminated on penalty kicks by Morocco, while Brazil defeated Japan 2-1 in the 90th minute with a goal from Martinelli. Most recently, Neymar posted a tweet mocking the mathematician, saying "Joachim Clement, try again at the next World Cup," and ended the post with a winking emoji.

US Security Chief Celebrates Iran's World Cup Exit

US Homeland Security Secretary Markawayne Mullin expressed satisfaction at Iran's World Cup elimination, saying he was pleased enough to dance after the team was denied visas and forced to travel through Mexico for all matches.

4h ago Khaosod

U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markawayne Mullin expressed joy at Iran's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying he was so pleased he felt like dancing. Iran exited in the group stage after drawing 1-1 with Austria and Algeria. During a recent security department briefing, Mullin stated, "I'm just happy they're done and won't be back." Iran faced significant obstacles during the tournament, as many players and officials were denied U.S. visas and had to travel through Mexico for all three matches. U.S. authorities only permitted the team to stay one day before matches, forcing them to return to their camp immediately. Iran's team complained of being the most oppressed team at the World Cup. Mullin revealed his satisfaction: "I was very pleased we could revoke their visas and tell them to leave U.S. soil. I might sing a song or two, or maybe even feel like dancing with joy. No other team has required more of our administrative effort than Iran."

On June 30, 2569, police led by Lt. Gen. Worawit Yanjinda, commissioner of the Narcotics Police Bureau, raided a luxury resort on Ramindra-Ekamai bypass road after receiving a tip that a fugitive wanted for attempted murder was hosting a drug party at the location. Officers discovered loud music, dim lighting, and some individuals asleep inside. They took 12 people into custody, including two wanted suspects: Woraphop, wanted for attempted murder, and Sittep, wanted for possession of ketamine. Six others were detained for drug possession, while four voluntarily agreed to treatment, including a French tourist.

Police found ecstasy, ice methamphetamine, ketamine, and electronic cigarette devices filled with etomidate (poke) hidden throughout the resort. A search of the suspects' pickup truck yielded additional drugs.

Squishy Toy Craze Resurges Amid Safety And Waste Fears

Squishy toys are surging in popularity on social media, but recent UK enforcement actions have uncovered counterfeit products containing hazardous chemicals and excessive benzene levels, prompting safety concerns among Thai consumers and re

5h ago Khaosod

The stress-relief toy known as the "squishy" has made a comeback on TikTok and other social media platforms, with users reviewing, collecting and promoting a wide range of designs. The toys are now widely available through online marketplaces, retail stores and stalls near schools.

The renewed trend has also prompted concerns over product quality and safety, particularly for cheap, unbranded or counterfeit items. While no widespread safety issue has been confirmed in Thailand, recent enforcement actions in the United Kingdom have highlighted potential risks linked to some non-compliant products.

On 8 June, Trading Standards officers in Glasgow seized more than 5,900 counterfeit squishy toys from a warehouse after finding many lacked mandatory UKCA or CE conformity markings. Officials warned that some products could contain hazardous chemicals, including formaldehyde, phthalates and industrial solvents, which may cause skin irritation, nausea, headaches and respiratory problems after prolonged contact or inhalation.

On 24 June, Gloucestershire Trading Standards in England seized another 1,968 non-compliant squishy toys. Authorities also warned against a viral social media trend encouraging users to heat the toys in microwave ovens, saying the material could overheat, rupture and cause burns.

On 25 June, the UK's Office for Product Safety and Standards recalled certain batches of Squeezy Dumplings toys after laboratory tests found benzene levels in the outer material at four times the legal limit. Consumers were advised to stop using the affected products immediately and return them for a refund. Benzene is classified as a human carcinogen when exposure occurs at high levels or over extended periods.

In Thailand, no official recalls involving squishy toys have been announced. However, the recent overseas cases have prompted discussion among consumers about the safety of products sold through online platforms and general retailers, particularly those without Thai-language labels, manufacturer details or clear safety information. Consumer advocates have also called for closer monitoring of toys popular among children and teenagers.

Environmental concerns have also emerged. Many squishy toys are made from polyurethane foam or thermoplastic rubber, both plastic-based materials that do not easily biodegrade. If the current wave of popularity proves short-lived, discarded toys could add to plastic waste.

Some collectors note that squishy toys have been on the market for more than a decade but have regained popularity largely because of social media. They recommend buying products from reputable brands that comply with recognised safety standards, even if they are more expensive, to reduce the risk of purchasing poorly manufactured or counterfeit items.

Fans say squishies remain harmless toys and collectibles when purchased from reliable sources and used as intended. The recent enforcement actions overseas have nevertheless served as a reminder that consumers should exercise caution when purchasing these products.
