Seventy-nine-year-old Yai Lom was found dead in a seven-meter-deep well in Sattahip, Chonburi, after a three-day search prompted by her family’s report of her disappearance. At 10:00 a.m. on October 15, 2026, Pol. Col. Wutthiphong Somjai and his investigation team arrived at the scene to continue the search for Nang Lom (surname withheld), 79, after her relatives had lost contact with her since October 8 and filed a missing-person report on October 13. The search had been amplified through online posts, drawing many volunteers. Eventually, rescuers located her body in a well at Soi Plu Ta Luang 19, Moo 2, Plu Ta Luang Subdistrict, Sattahip District, Chonburi Province, and coordinated with the Sawang Rojanathamas Foundation to retrieve it. The well, about seven meters deep, was hidden in overgrown grass; her body was found floating inside. No signs of physical injury were observed, and her daughter confirmed her identity. The daughter, who works in Bangkok, said she could not reach her mother, who lived alone, and found her mother's mobile phone still at home. Neighbors reported seeing Yai Lom leave her house that morning wearing a long-sleeved shirt and carrying a bag, which heightened the family's concern and led them to file a missing-person report at Plu Ta Luang Police Station on October 13. Pol. Col. Wutthiphong Somjai said police deployed officers, checked CCTV footage, and pursued leads to trace her movements. Preliminary investigations suggest she may have entered the grassy area to collect vegetables such as morning glory for sale at local markets and house-to-house, before accidentally falling into the well, whose rim was level with the ground and difficult to see. Authorities will send the body for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and continue gathering evidence for legal proceedings. The incident has left her family and the search volunteers grieving, as they had hoped for her safe return.
