Police are racing to unravel the case of a 45-year-old woman found dead in a pond in the middle of a rice field in Ban Song, Village 2, Khamcha-i District, Mukdahan Province. The incident occurred on November 3, 2026, when the woman's body was discovered floating face-down in the water, completely unclothed, creating suspicion among relatives and villagers. The deceased was a resident of Nong Ian Subdistrict, Khamcha-i District, Mukdahan Province.
According to preliminary information, villagers saw the woman leave her village heading toward the pond around 12:30 PM. By evening, villagers notified relatives that her body was floating in the pond. They rushed to the scene and confirmed she had died.
On November 5, reporters visited the scene and spoke with Anusorn, 72, the victim's brother-in-law. He said around 5:30 PM, while on his way to pick up his wife who was volunteering as a village health worker, a villager on a motorcycle informed him his sister-in-law had died in the pond. He hurried to the scene and found her body floating face-down in the water without clothing. Near the pond's edge, her underwear, wallet, and shoes were found, while her shoulder bag was hung on a tree on the opposite bank.
Relatives remain troubled by the circumstances, particularly the body's condition and the positioning of the belongings. They question how and why her clothes were removed and items placed at different spots, noting the victim was small-framed and afraid of deep water. They want officials to thoroughly investigate to clear the family's doubts.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Atit Wanasin, Superintendent of Khamcha-i Police Station, revealed that officers cannot yet conclude the cause of death and have not ruled out any possibilities. The body has been sent to Srinagarind Hospital in Khon Kaen for a detailed autopsy. Investigators have been deployed to gather evidence and interview witnesses, while coordinating with water police to search for additional evidence in the pond.
The victim's body condition, time of death, and the placement of items around the pond must await forensic examination results and police investigation before determining whether this was an accident or involved other factors. Police are urgently working to resolve the doubts and reveal the truth.
