CHONBURI — 19 October 2026, Eight people were injured and nearly 10 vehicles damaged in a pile-up at a traffic light in Pattaya late Monday night after a 28-year-old driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into stationary traffic. The accident occurred at approximately 23:30 on Monday at the Photisan intersection on Pattaya–Naklua Road in Naklua subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province.
Pol. Lt. Nachat Chantharakran, deputy investigation inspector at Pattaya City Police Station, received a report that a car had crashed into several cars and motorcycles waiting at a red light. Rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation were dispatched to assist the injured. At the scene, officers found several damaged cars and motorcycles scattered across the road, with vehicle debris strewn across the intersection. Bystanders helped injured motorists out of their vehicles before rescue workers provided first aid and transported the victims to hospital. Eight people were reported injured.
Police identified the vehicle believed to have caused the crash as a black Haval H6 registered in Bangkok, driven by a 28-year-old man identified only as Denchai, who sustained minor injuries.
Among the damaged vehicles were a white MG ZS, a white Toyota Yaris, a grey Honda Giorno motorcycle, a Vespa motorcycle and a white Honda Wave 125i. Several other vehicles were damaged in the chain-reaction collision, bringing the total to nearly 10.
A witness said they were waiting at the red light when the black Haval approached at speed without appearing to slow down or brake. The vehicle struck the rear of stationary traffic, causing a series of collisions involving cars and motorcycles.
Denchai told police he had been feeling exhausted and had fallen asleep while driving, leaving him unable to control the vehicle before the crash. CCTV footage from the intersection showed the black Haval approaching and crashing into vehicles stopped at the red light.
Police administered a breathalyser test to the driver, which returned a negative result for alcohol. Officers also examined the scene and collected evidence. Investigators will review the CCTV footage in detail and interview the driver, victims and witnesses to establish the circumstances of the crash and determine whether legal action is warranted.
