Excitement in Uthai Thani as Villagers Discover Chuchok Statue During Temple Ceremony, Believe It Brings Good Fortune

Villagers in Uthai Thani uncovered a 25-centimeter Chuchok statue during a temple ceremony on May 27, believing the discovery is auspicious and will bring lottery luck to their community.

4d ago Khaosod

Villagers in Ban Hat Song Kaeo, Thakham Subdistrict, Tron District, Uthai Thani Province, gathered on May 27 to conduct a ceremonial offering to Pho Khampong shrine, a sacred site revered by two communities that serves as a spiritual center. Locals believe the shrine watches over Pad Marsh and a large reservoir crucial for agriculture, and that Pho Khampong protects villagers from danger while promoting agricultural prosperity and business success.

During the ceremony, villagers prepared traditional offerings including boiled pork head, boiled eggs, nine types of fruit, Thai desserts, betel nuts, cigarettes, and alcohol. As the ritual procession circled the shrine, one participant spotted an object protruding from the ground near the temple entrance. Upon investigation, they uncovered a 25-centimeter Chuchok statue, seemingly buried for a long time due to accumulated soil.

Villagers believe discovering the Chuchok statue is auspicious, as Chuchok is traditionally considered a "great grantor" believed to fulfill wishes. The community performed incense divination and obtained the lucky numbers 690, which they plan to use for lottery tickets in the upcoming draw. Villagers have vowed that if they win the grand prize, they will commission new clothes for the Chuchok statue and construct a proper shrine in gratitude.

Thai Sepaktakraw Chief Threatens International Court Action if Federation Bans Thailand from Asian Games

Thailand's sepaktakraw chief threatened international court action if the federation bans the team from the Asian Games, following the national team's refusal to continue playing in last weekend's world cup final against Malaysia over dispu

4d ago Khaosod

Thana Chaipraseuth, president of the Thai Sepaktakraw Association, stated he may file a complaint with the international court if the federation imposes a ban on Thailand's participation in the Asian Games in Japan. The controversy erupted during the ISTAF Sepaktakraw World Cup 2026 final in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last weekend, when the Thai national team refused to continue playing in the championship match against Malaysia due to dissatisfaction with Singapore-based referee Muhammad Radi's decisions. This incident could result in Thailand being banned from international competitions, including the upcoming Asian Games in Japan.

Following a Thai Olympic Committee meeting on May 27, 2026, Thana Chaipraseuth clarified that Thailand did not walk out of the venue. He emphasized that the team forfeited the championship to Malaysia but remained present at the medal ceremony, and the federation had been notified of this decision. He argued that if referees were deliberately favoring Malaysia, Thailand should accept the loss, but stated firmly that if the federation takes punitive action, Thailand would be forced to pursue the matter at the international court.

Regarding speculation that this dispute might be personally motivated by rival Bunyachai Lorpipat, a previous candidate for the association presidency, Thana said he preferred not to point fingers and asked the public to examine the facts and conduct of all parties involved.

Thana announced that the association will formally submit clarifications to the federation on various disputed points, and will request an explanation as to why referee Radi was assigned to oversee two matches in this tournament when other qualified referees were available.

Khon Kaen Man Protests Checkpoint: Why No Ticket for No License, But Arrest Record Sent to Court? Police Captain Explains It's the Law

A Khon Kaen police checkpoint stopped a woman with multiple violations including an expired license and revoked plate, then issued only a warning after finding she was a first-time offender; the commander clarified that driving without a li

4d ago Khaosod

At 12:30 p.m. on May 27, 2025, social media pages across Khon Kaen province shared a video clip from a checkpoint at Ban Fang Police Station, Ban Fang District, Khon Kaen Province. A Facebook user posted a complaint saying the incident happened to someone close to them, questioning the police's enforcement approach. The post stated: "The driver had no license but showed a national ID. Police couldn't issue a ticket, but went ahead and filed an arrest report for court instead—even though the person could have been identified to receive a ticket. The police claimed they need immediate cash payment to issue a ticket and can't let you pay at home later."

When contacted, Pol. Maj. Korrapob Netsudsong, the Ban Fang Police Station commander, explained that officers initially stopped a vehicle driven by a young woman and discovered multiple document and vehicle registration violations: the car was not registered, it used an old license plate that had been revoked by the Transport Office due to unpaid taxes for over three years, and the driver could not produce a valid license.

According to law, when a driver lacks a license, they must be referred to provincial court—fines cannot be issued at the police station level. This applies nationwide throughout Thailand. However, after further investigation, police found the driver had already filed for new vehicle registration and was waiting for the new license plate from the Transport Office. Considering she was a young first-time offender with no criminal history in the system, officers exercised discretion and issued only a warning, advising her to complete the registration process and always carry her license while driving.

The commander emphasized there was no arrest or ticket issued—only a check and warning with guidance to comply with the law. He added that regarding the social media post from a local page operator: the person posting was connected to the driver and unhappy about the vehicle stop. Police confirmed the traffic stop followed standard procedures when document and vehicle violations were discovered, with no intention to discriminate or single anyone out.

Police also reminded the public to ensure their vehicle registration, license plate, and driver's license are all valid and current before operating a vehicle, as using an improperly registered vehicle or revoked license plates constitutes a legal offense.

Lao official apologises for remarks targeting Thai cave rescuers

A Laotian deputy village chief apologized for social media comments criticizing Thai volunteers helping rescue seven villagers trapped in a flooded cave in Xaysomboun province, after facing backlash from users in both countries.

4d ago Khaosod

VIENTIANE, Laos — A deputy village chief in Laos has issued a public apology after his social media comments disparaging Thai volunteers helping rescue seven villagers trapped in a flooded cave drew fierce backlash from users in both countries.

Somchay Vilayvong, a deputy village chief in Xaysomboun province, came under fire after posting a comment that many interpreted as demeaning toward the Thai rescue team, suggesting the volunteers had shown up uninvited in search of recognition.

The comment spread rapidly online, drawing criticism from both Lao and Thai social media users.

On 26 May 2026, Somchay posted a video apology on his personal Facebook account. He said his remarks stemmed from a lack of understanding and expressed sincere support for all agencies involved in the rescue effort, adding that he would avoid making similar comments in the future.

The incident unfolded against the backdrop of an ongoing rescue operation in Long Chaeng district, where seven villagers have been trapped underground since 20 May after heavy rain flooded the entrance to a cave. The operation gained wider attention on 22 May when a local influencer shared footage of the rescue after receiving it via Facebook Messenger.

Thai volunteers joined the effort following a call for assistance from a Lao volunteer association, whose request was reposted by a Thai Facebook page — the same post under which Somchay's controversial comment appeared.

Pisit Challenges 'Thaeng' to Clarify What 'Blue System' Means, Threatens Legal Action Over Defamation Allegations

Senate spokesperson Pisit challenges Pheu Thai representative Nattapong to clarify his "blue system" accusation against the Senate, threatening legal action for defamation while rejecting claims of institutional conflict between parliament

4d ago Khaosod

At 11:35 a.m. on May 27, 2569, Senate spokesperson Pisit Apisatwanapong addressed the case of Nattapong Ruengpanya, a list-based House representative and Pheu Thai party leader, who posted on Facebook accusing the Senate of undermining key democratic principles by functioning as a 'blue system.' Eighty-nine senators subsequently issued a statement demanding an apology within three days, which Nattapong stated he did not anticipate providing.

Regarding the connection between the 'blue system' narrative and the Senate, Pisit said he did not know what Nattapong meant by the term and questioned whether Thailand even has such a system. "We have only one system—a democratic system with the King as head of state, which is clear," Pisit stated. He urged Nattapong to clarify what the 'blue system' means, as ambiguous language could cause public confusion and potentially incite social division.

Pisit directly challenged Nattapong, saying: "Tell us clearly what your 'blue system' means. Don't use language that requires public interpretation. As a House representative and party leader, you should be precise, transparent, and honest. Stop speaking in ways that confuse society or risk promoting division and unrest."

When asked if the situation represents conflict between the two chambers of parliament, Pisit rejected this characterization, stating that Nattapong's views are personal opinions, not positions of the House. He emphasized that not all Pheu Thai members share Nattapong's views and that the Senate does not view this as institutional conflict between chambers.

Pisit confirmed that the matter will not affect the Senate's legislative work, distinguishing between Nattapong's personal expressions and his official duties. He stated the Senate will consult legal advisors on how to proceed, noting that lawmakers and constitutional drafting remain the shared responsibility of both chambers.

CLICX Launches Branchless Banking with 'Customizable Account Numbers,' Using Data and Technology to Expand Financial Opportunities

Thailand's first branchless bank, CLICX, launches June 19 targeting freelancers and small business owners unable to access traditional credit, using behavioral data analytics and customizable account numbers to tailor financial services to

4d ago Khaosod

CLICX, Thailand's first branchless commercial bank, is a joint venture among KTB, AIS, and OR targeting people with irregular income and those unable to access traditional credit. The bank's signature feature is its 'customizable account number,' combined with behavioral data analytics to create financial services suited to actual lifestyles. Account bookings begin June 2, with full service launching June 19, 2026.

CEO Suporn Suntharohit explains that Thailand is entering a new financial era where banking services must go beyond basic account access to provide equitable financial opportunities for all. "Having a bank account doesn't mean everyone can access financial products suited to their individual circumstances," she notes. Although many Thais now have bank accounts, significant numbers still cannot access appropriate financial products—particularly those with irregular income like freelancers, independent professionals, and small business owners. Despite having stable income, financial discipline, and responsible spending habits, many are denied credit because they lack traditional income documentation or credit history.

Data from the Bank of Thailand shows over 63% of Thais still underutilize financial services, while more than 80% have emergency savings of less than six months. This gap created the opportunity for CLICX, a virtual bank combining the strengths of three Thai partners: Krung Thai Bank (KTB) for financial expertise, Advanced Info Service (AIS) for digital and technology capabilities, and OR for understanding consumer lifestyle and behavior. Together, these three groups serve over 50 million customers, providing CLICX with comprehensive behavioral data to develop financial services for underserved populations.

While extensive data doesn't necessarily make lending easier, it reveals both risks and customer potential more clearly than traditional methods, potentially reducing future bad debts. "The convergence of these three organizations isn't just about creating a new mobile bank, but building a financial platform that understands customers more deeply through data, technology, and real-life behavioral insights," Suporn explained.

CLICX operates under the concept 'Bank in One CLICX,' making finance simpler and more accessible through experiences beyond mobile transactions, including savings, spending management, credit access, and lifestyle-linked benefits.

Tragic Deaths of Family of Three Revealed: Father, Mother, and 7-Year-Old Daughter Found Dead in Bed with Key Chat Evidence

4d ago Khaosod

In a tragic case, a family of three—a 31-year-old civil engineer father named A (pseudonym), a 23-year-old municipal lawyer mother named B (pseudonym), and their 7-year-old daughter C (pseudonym)—were found dead in their second-floor bedroom on May 27. The bodies were discovered in a two-story townhouse after the father's coworker came to check on him following two days of failed contact attempts. Forensic officers found a charcoal burner in the bedroom.

Critical evidence emerged showing the mother had messaged a neighbor requesting CCTV footage to use as evidence in divorce proceedings against the father. The message stated: "Can I get the CCTV footage to gather evidence for the divorce? I want to end this but he won't agree. I'm exhausted. We have a marriage certificate but he won't consent."

A neighbor reported last seeing the family on May 25, noting they had appeared happy when eating hotpot together on May 22. However, on May 25 at 8 p.m., the mother sent the chat message requesting CCTV evidence, after which there was silence. The neighbor heard loud noises and crying sounds resembling an argument around midnight on May 24, but paid little attention at the time. By May 25, the neighbor noticed the house was unusually quiet and still, with the car remaining in the driveway and the daughter not cycling as usual. Growing concerned, the neighbor looked into the house starting May 26 using a flashlight but could only see the first floor. When the coworker arrived the following morning, the neighbor and friends attempted entry, finding the doors locked. After alerting police, they discovered all three family members lying peacefully on the bed as if sleeping, with the charcoal burner still in the room.
