Actress and radio DJ Bew Jitchariya, known for her northeastern Thai style performances, is now seven months pregnant and has finally spoken out about the family drama after her husband Aoff Taveewat posted about their financial struggles. Aoff revealed that last year they sold 14 baht of gold to pay off his brother-in-law's debts, and this year he had to redeem mortgaged farmland and a house worth 1.6 million baht that his brother-in-law had pledged. Frustrated by the recurring pattern of supporting her brother-in-law without any behavioral change, Bew confirmed they have decided to stop all financial assistance and focus entirely on caring for their soon-to-be-born daughter and themselves. Bew also opened up about her recent film debut in "Local LGBTQ+ Virus Apocalypse," sharing that despite being seven months pregnant during filming, she managed the physical demands well and enjoyed working with the cast and crew. She revealed she is expecting a daughter, that the planned delivery date is September, and she hopes for a natural birth. When asked about parenting duties, she joked that her husband tends to spoil the grandchildren more, though they have plenty of extended family support. Regarding prenatal care, her doctor has advised her to reduce sugar intake due to gestational diabetes risk, though she admits struggling with her sweet cravings, cutting her daily milk tea from two cups to one. She plans to check with her doctor about the baby's name, possibly choosing an Isan-style name based on the child's birth date.

Fourteen Cambodians Caught Sneaking Into Thailand
1d ago Khaosod

On July 14, 2025, military forces from the Burapha Command and the 1206 Ranger Unit conducted border patrols in Aranyaprathet District, Sakaew Province, when they discovered a group of men, women, and children trekking through natural forest paths near Noen Samphoem village. All 14 were identified as Cambodian nationals who had entered Thailand illegally—six men, seven women, and one boy. Ten had passports; four had no identification documents.

Upon questioning, the detainees explained they had previously worked in Thailand but returned to Cambodia last year and could not find employment. They contacted human smugglers and agreed to pay 5,000–8,000 baht per person to be smuggled back into Thailand to find work in markets in Pathum Thani, Rayong, and Bangkok.

"Three smugglers led us on foot through natural passages during the night to avoid detection," one detainee recounted. "But on our way to meet a pickup vehicle near Kud Hin village, we encountered ranger patrols. The three smugglers ran into a sugarcane field and abandoned us, and we were arrested."

The 14 Cambodians have been handed over to Khlong Nam Sai Police Station for prosecution on illegal entry charges. Authorities are pursuing the three smugglers who escaped.

Thai Government Backs AGT Star Nene Royal for Tourism
1d ago Khaosod

Bangkok — 14 July 2026, The Thai government has pledged its support for teenage singer "Nene Royal" after her standout performance on America's Got Talent (AGT), saying it plans to promote her as part of Thailand's tourism public relations and soft power campaign while sponsoring expenses related to her participation in the competition, as well as inviting the Thai public to vote for the young performer ahead of the next round of the competition in August.

Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul said on Tuesday at Government House, after leading a delegation from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to meet the prime minister, that the government was ready to support Nene Royal, whose real name is Rattikan Amloi, also known as Praew, in every aspect of her participation in AGT, including competition-related expenses.

During the meeting, the prime minister presented Nene with an Amazing Thailand lapel pin and souvenir gift set as a gesture of support ahead of her next competition, while praising her talent, determination and dedication for bringing international recognition to Thailand and inspiring young Thai artists.

During the event, Nene also gave a live performance of "Zombie" by The Cranberries, the same song she performed while accompanying herself on guitar during her AGT audition.

Surasak said that simply appearing on a global stage had already helped promote Thailand. He added that, looking ahead, the ministry plans to invite Nene to participate in future campaigns promoting Thai tourism, the country's image and its soft power, citing her broad abilities and potential.

Nene thanked the Thai public for their support and encouraged people to continue following her journey and vote for her in the next round of the competition, admitting she was shocked by how quickly everything had happened.

"Right now, I still don't realise I've become this famous. Everything has happened so quickly, and my life has changed a lot. Wherever I go, people recognise me. I can't even go out to buy meatballs anymore," she joked.

She also revealed that her ultimate dream is to become an international recording artist, release her own music and go on a world tour. She added that she is currently preparing to release two or three new songs that are already in the pipeline.

Nene emphasised that she introduced herself on AGT as being from "Phuket, Thailand" because she wanted audiences around the world to know she is from southern Thailand and a proud native of Phuket.

Liver Fluke Tests Show High False Positives in University Screening

Thailand's health ministry will review urine testing kits for liver flukes after a university screening found high false positive rates, with only 4 confirmed infections among 380 positive urine tests. Officials say stool examination remain

Liver Fluke Tests Show High False Positives in University Screening
1d ago Khaosod

On July 14, Dr. Somruk Cheusamuan, Permanent Secretary of the Public Health Ministry, announced after the 4th National Communicable Disease Committee meeting that authorities will jointly review technical guidelines for urine testing kits and care protocols for positive cases. The ministry's current standard treatment policy covers only patients with confirmed parasitic eggs found in stool samples, while a proposal to treat patients based on urine test results requires further academic review.

The urine test kit was originally developed and evaluated in laboratory settings using samples from high-infection areas, but its sensitivity and accuracy may change in regions with lower disease prevalence. Disease surveillance data shows an average prevalence of only 5%, requiring real-world field performance assessment before adoption as a standard diagnostic tool. Dr. Somruk noted that while the urine test's development had good intentions—stool examination is cumbersome and people are often reluctant to cooperate—it remains in the field evaluation phase and cannot yet replace standard testing methods.

The ministry's primary concern is cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer), which is linked to long-term liver fluke infection. Officials are advancing parallel strategies including screening in high-risk areas for early cancer detection and public campaigns against risky behaviors such as consuming undercooked or raw food, alongside developing more convenient and effective screening tools before implementing them in routine healthcare services.

Dr. Niti Hattanurak, Deputy Director-General of the Disease Control Department, reported that of 380 students testing positive with the urine kit, 292 underwent stool examination, revealing only 4 confirmed liver fluke infections and 11 other parasitic infections such as roundworms. This discrepancy reflects differences between the two testing methods, reinforcing reliance on the World Health Organization's stool examination as the diagnostic standard.

Dr. Yongjuea Laeosiritathorn, Director of the General Communicable Diseases Division, clarified that the ministry continues to use stool examination as the primary screening method and provides treatment only to confirmed cases, while the urine test serves as preliminary self-screening. Positive urine results require confirmatory stool testing.

Scientist Debunks Viral Tooth Pain 'Cure' Using Cockroaches

A viral video promoting cockroaches as a traditional toothache remedy has been debunked by scientists, who warn the practice is unsafe and ineffective, urging parents to see dentists instead.

Scientist Debunks Viral Tooth Pain 'Cure' Using Cockroaches
1d ago Khaosod

Online commenters have criticized a Facebook video claiming to show a traditional method for treating children's toothaches by rubbing cockroaches on the cheek, with worm-like insects appearing on the child's face. The original poster claimed to demonstrate an ancient remedy and asked followers to explain how the treatment worked and whether it provided relief. After the video spread, most responses condemned the practice as unsafe and incorrect, with people advising parents to take children with toothaches to a dentist for proper diagnosis and treatment. Social media users also warned that cockroaches are disease vectors that may carry parasites and bacteria, as they typically live in filthy environments like drainage pipes, garbage cans, and areas with rotting food, making them unsuitable and potentially dangerous for medical use. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jessada Denduangboripant, a biology lecturer at Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Science and science communicator, responded on Facebook by identifying the practice as a deceptive "magic trick" designed to fool people into thinking cockroaches were special tooth-eating insects. He advised anyone with toothache pain to seek professional dental evaluation and treatment from a qualified dentist rather than attempting ceremonies or unproven remedies lacking medical evidence.

On July 14, 2025, officials led by Prapid Yanpanya, district chief of Pong Nam Ron, coordinated with local police and immigration officers to arrest four Indian nationals along a road in Tambon Thap Thai, Pong Nam Ron district, Chanthaburi province. The arrests followed public alerts on a Facebook community group warning of Indian nationals traveling door-to-door selling counterfeit goods, particularly targeting vulnerable elderly people living alone.

Searches uncovered a substantial quantity of evidence, including gold-colored necklaces made to resemble real gold, watches, earrings, eyeglasses, and the motorcycle used in their travels. The suspects would ride from house to house offering watches and jewelry they falsely claimed were genuine gold, using persuasive talk to target elderly residents living alone.

Initial charges filed include illegal employment by foreign nationals working without proper authorization. The suspects have been turned over to Pong Nam Ron Police Station for further investigation and legal prosecution. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and refuse any door-to-door jewelry purchases, and to immediately alert community leaders, local officials, or relevant authorities if suspicious individuals attempt to sell such items in their area.

Thailand aims to export one million durian units in 2025, with the Commerce Ministry expanding sales into 11 secondary Chinese cities and leveraging live commerce platforms to boost fruit exports overall.

Thailand Targets 1 Million Durian Exports, Eyes 11 Chinese Cities
1d ago Khaosod

The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) under the Commerce Ministry is rolling out a comprehensive plan to boost Thai fruit exports, with a 2025 target of 332.5 billion baht in fresh and processed fruit sales, representing 5 percent growth from the previous year's 192.5 billion baht. Sunantha Kangwalkulgij, DITP director-general, revealed that the strategy encompasses market expansion, logistics management, and digital commerce promotion, including forward purchasing negotiations, business matchmaking, and entry into new foreign markets through partnerships with China, Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, and the UAE, generating over 3,120 million baht in trade value.

Durian has emerged as a star export, with production expected to reach 2.07 million units—a 33 percent increase—prompting the DITP to target exports of one million units globally. The department is expanding beyond major Chinese cities into 11 secondary cities including Yinchuan, Wuxi, Urumqi, Nanchang, Baicheng, Liuzhou, Changsha, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Zhengzhou, and Dalian. A key logistics initiative involves extending border gate hours at Hu Gong in Vietnam and other crossing points to streamline shipments to southern China and reduce seasonal congestion.

To tap into China's booming live commerce sector—now a major growth engine for retail—the DITP plans to deploy key opinion leaders for real-time sales promotions reaching modern consumers. Recent export data underscores market recovery, with durian sales surging 109.5 percent in April, rambutan up 92.8 percent, and lychee growing 70 percent. Additional initiatives include Thai Tropical Fruits Golden Months campaigns, in-store promotions, trade missions, and trade fairs in partnership with department stores, importers, local retailers, and influencers.

Police Chief Says Officials Named in Local Exam Cheating Probe

Police have identified officials involved in a 2568 local exam cheating scandal and plan arrests within days, with a three-phase investigation examining procedures from test creation through score manipulation.

Police Chief Says Officials Named in Local Exam Cheating Probe
1d ago Khaosod

National Police Chief Kittarat Panthapetch announced on July 14, 2568 at Government House that his task force has identified those involved in the 2568 local government and civil service recruitment exam fraud case and has categorized them into groups. He stated the investigation team is preparing to announce arrests tomorrow, following the detention of three suspects whose testimony and forensic evidence are being compiled for legal proceedings.

Panthapetch explained that the committee established a three-phase investigative framework: the pre-exam preparation phase examining whether exam procedures, recruitment, test creation, test security, and safeguards were conducted properly; the during-exam phase covering group assignments, venue arrangements, test distribution, examination conduct, and supervision; and the post-exam phase reviewing result processing, answer checking, and allegations of answer correction and score manipulation.

From July 10–13, the task force intensively gathered facts, sending requests to educational institutions and financial bodies for documents. The investigation is currently in the data analysis stage. The police chief noted that detailed findings regarding individuals involved will lead to conclusions to be reported to the committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Patchon Nilprapan and ultimately to the Prime Minister, with recommendations for disciplinary, ethical, systemic, and policy measures to prevent future incidents.

With less than a month remaining under the 30-day directive, police are accelerating their work. When asked if investigators have sufficient information to proceed, the police chief said they have adequate material but acknowledged multiple factual questions remain across all three phases, requiring further document requests and witness interviews before the investigation can be considered complete. Over the next week, police will intensify efforts using documents received from Thammasat University, the Interior Ministry, and the Civil Service Commission's examination standards comprising over ten criteria.
