The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) under the Commerce Ministry is rolling out a comprehensive plan to boost Thai fruit exports, with a 2025 target of 332.5 billion baht in fresh and processed fruit sales, representing 5 percent growth from the previous year's 192.5 billion baht. Sunantha Kangwalkulgij, DITP director-general, revealed that the strategy encompasses market expansion, logistics management, and digital commerce promotion, including forward purchasing negotiations, business matchmaking, and entry into new foreign markets through partnerships with China, Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, and the UAE, generating over 3,120 million baht in trade value.

Durian has emerged as a star export, with production expected to reach 2.07 million units—a 33 percent increase—prompting the DITP to target exports of one million units globally. The department is expanding beyond major Chinese cities into 11 secondary cities including Yinchuan, Wuxi, Urumqi, Nanchang, Baicheng, Liuzhou, Changsha, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Zhengzhou, and Dalian. A key logistics initiative involves extending border gate hours at Hu Gong in Vietnam and other crossing points to streamline shipments to southern China and reduce seasonal congestion.

To tap into China's booming live commerce sector—now a major growth engine for retail—the DITP plans to deploy key opinion leaders for real-time sales promotions reaching modern consumers. Recent export data underscores market recovery, with durian sales surging 109.5 percent in April, rambutan up 92.8 percent, and lychee growing 70 percent. Additional initiatives include Thai Tropical Fruits Golden Months campaigns, in-store promotions, trade missions, and trade fairs in partnership with department stores, importers, local retailers, and influencers.

National Police Chief Kittarat Panthapetch announced on July 14, 2568 at Government House that his task force has identified those involved in the 2568 local government and civil service recruitment exam fraud case and has categorized them into groups. He stated the investigation team is preparing to announce arrests tomorrow, following the detention of three suspects whose testimony and forensic evidence are being compiled for legal proceedings.

Panthapetch explained that the committee established a three-phase investigative framework: the pre-exam preparation phase examining whether exam procedures, recruitment, test creation, test security, and safeguards were conducted properly; the during-exam phase covering group assignments, venue arrangements, test distribution, examination conduct, and supervision; and the post-exam phase reviewing result processing, answer checking, and allegations of answer correction and score manipulation.

From July 10–13, the task force intensively gathered facts, sending requests to educational institutions and financial bodies for documents. The investigation is currently in the data analysis stage. The police chief noted that detailed findings regarding individuals involved will lead to conclusions to be reported to the committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Patchon Nilprapan and ultimately to the Prime Minister, with recommendations for disciplinary, ethical, systemic, and policy measures to prevent future incidents.

With less than a month remaining under the 30-day directive, police are accelerating their work. When asked if investigators have sufficient information to proceed, the police chief said they have adequate material but acknowledged multiple factual questions remain across all three phases, requiring further document requests and witness interviews before the investigation can be considered complete. Over the next week, police will intensify efforts using documents received from Thammasat University, the Interior Ministry, and the Civil Service Commission's examination standards comprising over ten criteria.

Police Still Unclear on Locked Exit Door at Ladprao Beer House
1d ago Khaosod

On July 14, 2025, at Government House, Police Commissioner General Kittirattana Pannadet updated the investigation into the fire at "Beer House at Ladprao." He stated that the forensic police report has not yet been received, but a meeting was held between the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Commander and the Police Hospital's chief medical officer regarding the investigation. The owner remains in critical condition in the ICU and cannot provide a statement.

Regarding allegations that the establishment operated illegally, the commissioner said police are checking whether the business license was obtained properly and whether operations violated permitted categories. All such matters are under investigation.

On the question of whether exit doors were locked, the commissioner said it remains unclear. However, from his site inspection, he found four doors. Doors 1 and 2 are the main entrance and exit facing Ladprao Road. Door 3, near the men's restroom, has two locks and a handle with a table positioned nearby and scattered candy, suggesting it may have been closed to prevent customers from leaving without paying. Door 4 is a sliding kitchen door with two bolts that appear to be damaged, possibly during the fire. It remains under investigation whether this door was used during the incident.

Regarding emergency exit signage, the commissioner noted a small sign above Door 4 leading to the kitchen was destroyed by fire, and forensic analysis is determining whether it was a proper emergency exit sign. However, during the fire, the power failed and thick black smoke would have obscured visibility.

On responsibility if the owner dies, the commissioner stated that the law clearly addresses negligence charges, but civil liability extends to all partners, co-registered owners, cooks, staff, and security personnel. All parties have been grouped for investigation to determine what actually happened. The commissioner emphasized there is no fixed timeline but stressed the investigation must be complete and accurate, noting this case has caused great sadness.

At 3:10 p.m. on July 14, 2569, Suwanna Saetiao, the close sister of Jaruay Sermsiri, 25, confirmed that DNA test results have verified her sister's death. After Jaruay went missing, Suwanna searched multiple hospitals hoping to find her sister injured in a critical condition, but had no success. She then reported her missing to the coordination center at the incident location, and authorities coordinated with hospitals to check their patient rosters, though her sister was never found.

After their mother provided a DNA sample this afternoon, the comparison results confirmed that Jaruay had died. Suwanna said she came prepared with makeup and perfume to beautify her sister's body for the funeral, as her sister loved beauty and grooming. She wanted to do her best for her sister and provide comfort to the grieving family. Suwanna believes the incident resulted from negligence and insufficient safety at the entertainment venue, and hopes such tragedies never happen to anyone else again.

Regarding compensation, Suwanna acknowledged it will be necessary but said for now she wants to focus on completing her sister's funeral arrangements before pursuing that matter further.

Thailand Launches Four-Point Plan to Become Asia's Aviation Hub
1d ago Khaosod

Thailand's Civil Aviation Authority (CAAT) unveiled a multi-pronged strategy on July 14 to strengthen the country's aviation industry amid global economic turbulence. The agency held an executive policy dialogue to communicate four key policy directions to aviation stakeholders: reducing operational costs and ensuring public safety, stimulating aviation economics, promoting green aviation, and establishing a foundation for future aviation systems. The goal is to position Thailand as a regional aviation hub while showcasing the country's readiness to host the 2026 ICAO Advanced Air Mobility conference, marking the first time Asia will host this major aviation summit.

CAAT Director Air Chief Marshal Manat Chuanprayur outlined how global aviation faces headwinds from conflicts and energy crises, with the International Air Transport Association downgrading industry profit forecasts from $41 billion to $23 billion. In response, CAAT has crafted proactive policies to help airlines and airports navigate volatility while maintaining affordability for passengers. The measures include reducing air navigation service fees, landing and storage charges, and extending payment timelines—steps designed to ease cost pressures on operators while keeping ticket prices stable and offering more travel choices to the public.

The Thai Meteorological Department issued a weather forecast on July 14, 2025, warning of heavy rainfall in the northern, northeastern, and southern regions over the next 24 hours, with the eastern region particularly vulnerable to very heavy downpours. The conditions are driven by a low-pressure system over northern Vietnam combined with a strengthening southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

Authorities urge residents in affected areas to exercise caution against hazards from intense and accumulated rainfall, which could trigger sudden flooding and flash floods, especially in hillside areas near waterways and low-lying zones. In the Andaman Sea's upper region, waves are expected to reach 2–3 meters, exceeding 3 meters during thunderstorms. The lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand will see waves around 2 meters, rising above 2 meters during storms. Mariners are advised to navigate carefully and avoid areas with thunderstorms; small boats in the upper Andaman should remain ashore until July 15.

Regional forecasts through tomorrow at 6 p.m. include:

**Northern Region**: Thunderstorms in 60 percent of areas with isolated heavy rain in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Tak, Phichit, and Phetchabun provinces. Low of 22–25°C, high of 31–34°C, southwest winds 10–20 km/h.

**Northeastern Region**: Thunderstorms in 40 percent of areas with heavy rain in Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Udon Thani, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani. Low of 24–25°C, high of 30–35°C, southwest winds 10–20 km/h.

Deputy PM: Local Exam Fraud Probe Finds ITRIS Data Conflicts
1d ago Khaosod

Deputy Prime Minister Phakorn Nilpraphan announced at Government House on 14 July 2569 that a fact-finding committee investigating fraud allegations in the 2568 local government civil service recruitment examinations has uncovered serious concerns, particularly regarding the ITRIS system. The committee's primary focus is to identify systemic flaws and assign responsibility at each step of the process, rather than target specific individuals; disciplinary action and criminal prosecution will be handled by relevant agencies and the National Anti-Corruption Commission. Phakorn stated that the conflicting ITRIS data represents unacceptable conduct and moral failings, emphasizing that those involved should never be allowed to enter public service, as they intentionally committed fraud from the outset. He added that detailed findings will be reported to the Prime Minister every 10 days and will not be disclosed to the media to prevent information leaks, while praising cooperation from the Interior Ministry, private companies, and universities in resolving the matter.

Thailand Eyes Higher Power Rates For Data Centers
1d ago Khaosod

Thailand's energy ministry is preparing to overhaul the country's electricity user classification system, according to sources from the Energy Ministry. At a meeting of the National Energy Policy Committee (NEPC) on July 15, 2569, chaired by Prime Minister Anuthín Charnweerakul, Energy Minister Eknath Prom Phan will propose restructuring electricity user categories from eight to ten types. The key change is creating a new ninth category specifically for data centers, with electricity rates set 5–6 baht per unit higher than standard rates to reflect true generation costs.

Data centers, particularly large AI processing facilities and servers, consume high volumes of electricity continuously 24 hours a day, forcing the power system to rely on expensive imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) rather than domestic gas. Under the current uniform rate structure, these extra costs are averaged into the national tariff, creating an invisible burden on ordinary households. By charging data centers separately and at higher rates, the ministry aims to extract approximately 17 billion baht annually in previously hidden charges from public bills.

The ministry plans to use revenue from data center charges to reduce electricity costs for vulnerable households and potentially support small and medium enterprises. A tenth user category, labeled "public electricity costs," would also be created to transparently separate public infrastructure expenses currently bundled into household bills. The restructuring seeks to ensure each user group bears the actual cost of their electricity consumption while reducing cross-subsidies and increasing transparency in Thailand's power pricing system.

Thailand Destroys 13 Tons of Seized Drugs in National Ceremony
1d ago Khaosod

Thailand's 62nd national drug destruction ceremony incinerated 10 tons of methamphetamine pills and 3.15 tons of crystal methamphetamine on July 14, 2026, at an industrial waste management facility in Samut Prakan province. Public Health Minister Pattana Prom-Pattana chaired the event, joined by senior officials from the Public Health Ministry, the Food and Drug Administration, and the National Narcotics Control Board.

Pattana declared that narcotics pose a grave threat to national security, public welfare, and Thailand's youth, and that the government has made drug prevention a national agenda requiring cooperation across all sectors. He emphasized that lasting solutions require enforcement paired with prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, social reintegration, and measures to disrupt criminal financing. The strategy includes strengthening law enforcement, enhancing international cooperation, targeting major traffickers and transnational networks, asset seizure, and building youth resilience against drug abuse.

The ceremony was conducted under the slogan "Burn for Better—burning today for a better tomorrow." The Food and Drug Administration, working with the Narcotics Control Board, National Police, and the Department of Medical Sciences, ensured transparent and verifiable procedures. All seized narcotics underwent rigorous inspection of case numbers, drug type, weight, and laboratory analysis before destruction.

The incineration destroyed 13.24 tons of confiscated drugs from 10,061 cases: 10.01 tons of methamphetamine pills, 3.15 tons of crystal methamphetamine, 70 kilograms of heroin, plus ketamine, benzodiazepines, MDMA, opium, etomidate, cocaine, and drug mixtures. Pattana stressed that the destruction demonstrates to the public that seized drugs are permanently removed from circulation and cannot re-enter society, reinforcing public confidence in drug management and reaffirming all agencies' commitment to serious drug suppression.

She was apprehended aboard a Yala–Nakhon Si Thammarat local train while it stopped at Hat Yai Junction Station in Hat Yai district, Songkhla province.

The incident occurred on July 3 when the suspect called the victim to meet at Lam Ta Chi in Lam Phot subdistrict, Yaring district, Pattani.
