Adopted Son Swindles Elderly Couple Out of Home Worth 8.5 Million Baht
An elderly man lost his 8.5-million-baht home to an adopted son who promised to pay his late wife's medical debts, then evicted both of them and sold the house without sharing the proceeds.
On September 3, a woman named Namo from Ban Chang Thong posted a video of an elderly man selling his last possession—a gold belt—to survive. The man's story is heartbreaking: in his 40s, he earned at least 300,000 baht monthly selling secondhand luxury cars and operating a full-service auto repair shop, comfortably paying a 60,000-baht monthly mortgage. When his wife fell ill with cancer requiring 100,000 baht monthly in treatment, he pawned his assets to pay her medical bills. He had bought a house for 6.8 million baht and still owed 3 million. His wife met a young man at a temple and they took him in as a foster son, about 20 years old, believing he would care for them both in their old age since they had no biological children.
The foster son later offered to help clear the remaining 3-million-baht debt and promised to stay with them forever. The elderly man then paid off the bank loan and transferred the house deed to the foster son's name. As the wife's cancer worsened, the foster son threw both of them out of the house, saying he would sell it. The wife was devastated and her condition deteriorated rapidly. She died, leaving the husband without even money for a funeral. The foster son sold the house for 8.5 million baht and gave the elderly man nothing.
The man reflected that karma from his past—he had helped many people and loaned money generously, but no one repaid him. He sold his gold belt through Namo, who had it melted down. The belt was worth 377,006 baht. After deducting debts and redemption fees, the elderly man was left with only 47,500 baht to return home. He wept and raised his hands in gratitude to Namo.
