Drug Suspect Hangs Himself in Detention After 5,000 Pill Arrest

Pongsakorn Khunpluang received a report from officers of the Khura Buri Volunteer Company 6, Phang Nga Province, that the suspect was found dead in the detention cell. The suspect, identified as Phonet (surname withheld), 39, a resident of Khura Buri, Phang Nga, was arrested on September 29, 2026 around 20:00 with about 5,000 meth tablets and was subsequently detained at the same company. According to initial checks, Phonet was a suspect in a drug case; he was arrested together with the seized Category 1 narcotics (methamphetamine) totaling roughly 5,000 tablets on the evening of September 29, 2026, and was placed under the authority of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board for further investigation. Detention began around 22:00 the same day. Early this morning at approximately 07:30, Volunteer Officer Athornphon Thitimutha, on duty, entered the detention cell to check and found Phonet hanging lifeless. He then notified police to investigate. After receiving the report, officials informed Pol. Col. Precha Baringphatthanakul, commander of Khura Buri Police Station, and coordinated with the prosecutor’s office, local administration, and a doctor to examine the body and conduct an autopsy.
