The Din Daeng District director has ordered the suspension of an additional permanent employee of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Din Daeng District Office, effective August 19. This employee allegedly collaborated with brokers to facilitate the transfer of foreign nationals into household registries at a Din Daeng condominium belonging to relatives and coordinated related documentation to enable the acquisition of pink ID cards. Police have charged the individual with aiding officials to act improperly, presenting false evidence in household records, and jointly entering false data into computer systems.

Adisr stated that this order represents an expanded enforcement action following the earlier suspension of three registry division officials on August 18, all of whom face charges for acting or failing to act improperly in their duties, certifying false documents, and jointly entering false data into computer systems.

The man appeared to be intoxicated, prompting staff to accompany him back to his nearby room. She later reported the incident to officers at Kho Hong Police Station and said she wanted to pursue legal action against the man. The accused man spoke to the media yesterday and claimed that he had been heavily intoxicated after attending a concert at an entertainment venue near the hotel. He said a friend dropped him at the hotel at about 4am while he was barely conscious. He claimed he could not remember his room number and went to Room 238, which was next to his own Room 236. The man insisted that he did not behave in any other disturbing way. He said he tried to unlock the door but was unable to do so before sitting on a sofa outside the room until hotel staff arrived and helped him access his own room. The man also alleged that a group of men threatened him, with one claiming to be the woman’s boyfriend and a police officer. He claimed the man threatened to fabricate a drug offence against him if he refused to pay the requested compensation. He also said the man pressured him by threatening that he would be jailed if he did not pay. The man denied having any ill intentions and said he said the incident happened because he was heavily intoxicated and unaware of his surroundings at the time. He appealed for public understanding over the incident. The claims concerning the 30,000 baht payment and alleged threats have not been verified by police. Nan province continues to assess widespread damage after heavy rainfall sent floodwaters downstream through Pua and Tha Wang Pha districts and into Nan City on August 20, 2026. Although water levels at some monitoring stations have begun to fall, forest runoff from the Nan River has inundated economic zones and communities along its banks. Heavy overnight rainfall triggered the flooding, which began overnight and persisted into the morning.

As floodwaters receded in some areas, residents began sharing photographs documenting the devastation. One resident of Ban Rong in Pua district posted images on Facebook describing the village entrance as the first point where forest runoff from the Khwang River tore into the community. Bangkok ranked eighth worldwide in the 2026 Yanolja Attractiveness Index, which looks at how often cities are discussed online in connection with travel and how positively people talk about their experiences. Yanolja's research put New York at No. 1, followed by Paris, Osaka, Kyoto and Seoul. Bangkok scored 7.48 out of 10, ranking fifth for "awareness" and ninth for "attractiveness" among 261 cities.

Awareness measures how widely a city is recognised and discussed online based on its share of relevant mentions across platforms. Attractiveness measures how positively travellers discuss their experiences of a city. Each score makes up half of the final ranking.

For Bangkok, festivals and events, accommodation, shopping, food and nightlife were identified as particular strengths. Other Thai destinations also made the list: Chiang Mai ranked 27th overall, while Phuket landed in the second tier (51st–100th) and Pattaya in the third (101st–150th).

Researchers analysed online tourism discussions posted between June 2025 and May 2026, covering 14 languages and drawing data from social media, blogs, forums and review sites including Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, Tripadvisor, Google, Booking.com, Agoda and Trip.com. An AI-based sentiment-analysis model classified mentions as positive, neutral or negative using 419 tourism-related keywords across 17 sub-categories.

However, the index measures how visible a destination is online and how positively it is discussed rather than providing a definitive score for infrastructure, affordability, safety, visitor numbers or overall quality. The study covers only selected languages and platforms and excludes Chinese-language social data because of access and cross-border data-transfer restrictions.
