Brother Shoots Sister Dead In Land Inheritance Dispute
A woman was shot dead by her brother during a heated land inheritance dispute at a construction site in Rayong on July 9, with her husband also wounded in the shooting.
On July 9, 2026, police at Nikhom Pattana Station in Rayong received reports of a shooting with fatalities and injuries at a construction site in Makham Khu Subdistrict, Nikhom Pattana District. Officers and rescue teams arrived to find a white car engulfed in flames. Upon extinguishing the fire, they discovered the body of Orawan, who had been shot in the back of the head. Her husband, Singkhon, was found with gunshot wounds to the head and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
The perpetrator was identified as Chaowalit, 60, Orawan's older brother. The two had been involved in a prolonged land inheritance dispute. On the day of the incident, a provincial court had scheduled an official land boundary survey to resolve the conflict. However, when the siblings and officials met at the site, a heated argument broke out. Unable to reach agreement, Chaowalit produced a firearm and opened fire multiple times on both his sister and brother-in-law. He then set Orawan's car on fire and fled in a bronze-gray pickup truck toward Ban Chang District.
Orawan's son, Patomporn, revealed that during the ongoing land dispute, Chaowalit had repeatedly threatened his mother's life. His mother, sensing danger, had even filed a report at Nikhom Pattana Police Station and requested police protection during the land survey. However, the shooting occurred before police and surveying officials could arrive. Authorities are now actively pursuing Chaowalit to press charges.
