Three illegal lenders surrendered to police after attacking a convenience store worker, admitting they acted in anger over a 8,000-baht loan with missed payments. On July 9, Nattapat, a 39-year-old convenience store employee, reported to Udon Thani City Police that he was attacked at a market in Nong Hai subdistrict, suffering facial swelling and bleeding from his mouth. Police called paramedics to treat his injuries before hospitalization.

At 11 a.m., the three suspects—39-year-old Rewat, 29-year-old Nattavut, and 34-year-old Chonachonyom—surrendered to Deputy Inspector Pichet Pakketati of Udon Thani City Police. They claimed Nattapat borrowed 8,000 baht, not 4,000 as alleged, and had repeatedly failed to pay. They said they drove past the market, spotted him, and confronted him about the outstanding debt, but he denied ever borrowing money, which provoked them to assault him with their bare hands.

Police revealed that Nattapat was a repeat customer who had refinanced his debt. Under the latest 8,000-baht agreement, he was supposed to pay 400 baht daily for 24 days, but only paid for 2-3 days before stopping for three months. They reduced his daily installment to 100 baht, which he still didn't pay. The suspects expressed remorse, apologized to the victim, and acknowledged they lost control due to his repeated defaults and denial of borrowing. They pledged to quit the illegal lending business and forgive the entire debt to resolve the matter.

Deputy Inspector Pichet stated that the Royal Thai Police are committed to cracking down on illegal lending and protecting citizens from loan shark intimidation and extortion. Charges of conducting unauthorized personal lending and charging illegal interest rates have been filed against all three suspects. The assault case is pending the victim's formal complaint filing. The victim remains hospitalized at Udon Thani Hospital undergoing treatment for nasal injuries and will pursue charges upon discharge.

Lawmaker Warns Popular Squishies Pose Cancer Risk To Children

A Thai Democrat Party lawmaker warns that popular squishy toys contain hazardous chemicals including phthalates that can damage children's respiratory systems, livers, and kidneys while increasing cancer risk.

Lawmaker Warns Popular Squishies Pose Cancer Risk To Children
6h ago Khaosod

Democrat Party list MP Radchalai Intavong Suvankeeri has spoken out about the dangers of squishy toys, which are currently popular among children and teenagers. She warned that consumers today risk not just their money but their health, with children being the most vulnerable. Although the toys appear harmless on the surface, their porous foam easily accumulates dust and disease-causing microbes. Multiple countries have detected hazardous chemicals in these toys, including phthalates and volatile organic compounds, which can damage the respiratory system, liver, kidneys, and child development while increasing cancer risk. "Cute-looking toys can become devil toys without rigorous safety standard inspections, because when these products slip onto the market, it is children and their families who bear the risk," Intavong said. She questioned whether the Consumer Council plans to escalate from merely receiving complaints to pushing for product safety standards in the digital age, and proposed that cross-border e-commerce platforms be held accountable to consumers and businesses, while coordinating with the Industrial Products Standards Office and the Food and Drug Administration to increase inspections of imported goods, especially those for children and youth.

18-Month-Old Found Breathing in Morgue After Drowning
6h ago Khaosod

An 18-month-old American child was declared dead after drowning in a residential swimming pool during a Super Bowl viewing party in Arizona, only to be found still breathing five hours later in the hospital morgue. The child was initially transported to the hospital and pronounced dead by physicians. However, when medical examiner's staff arrived at the morgue to collect the body, they discovered the child was still breathing and immediately airlifted him by helicopter to Phoenix Children's Hospital for emergency care.

Police reports indicate that before the death was declared, the child's parents and two officers present at the hospital observed what appeared to be gasping or agonal breathing. Hospital staff attributed this to the final moments of life. One police officer claims he heard a nurse say "there's still a pulse" before the doctor confirmed death. Although hospital medical records have not been released, the discrepancy raises questions about the death declaration, though spontaneous cardiac return after CPR cessation, though rare, is medically possible.

The child's condition has since improved, but family attorneys report severe injuries requiring lifelong care. Police have filed charges against the parents for child neglect and reckless endangerment leading to the drowning. The case is currently under review by the Maricopa County District Attorney's Office. The hospital issued a statement saying it has reviewed the incident and will implement improved patient monitoring procedures to prevent similar occurrences.

Actor Matum Techin shared a remarkable experience from the 2025 annual worship ceremony of Naga King in Nakhon Phanom province, held on July 7. Participating for the first time, he received the honor of carrying the provincial banner while dancing alongside performer Ingfah Waraha, who led the procession of 3,000 dancers through the streets. Despite having no prior rehearsal, Matum managed to follow Ingfah's movements gracefully throughout all four songs, crediting her excellent body control and dance training for making it easy to follow her lead.

During the procession, Ingfah reportedly made a heartfelt prayer, asking the Naga Spirit to delay the rain until after the third and fourth songs so she could dance in the rainfall. Remarkably, rain began to fall exactly as requested—with drizzle appearing during the third song and heavy rain during the fourth, with torrential downpour erupting immediately after Ingfah finished dancing and entered the hotel.

Matum explained that he attended primarily to give thanks rather than to ask for blessings, expressing respect for the Naga Spirit as a follower of the Buddha. He noted that while he has no formal dance training, he attempted to move as smoothly as possible by simply following Ingfah's lead. Following this experience, multiple provinces have invited Matum to carry their banners at various provincial events, prompting him to humorously dub himself "Thailand's Mr. Banner Holder."

AIS Teams With CIB To Bust Online Crime Network

Advanced Info Service Public Company Limited (AIS) announced it has partnered with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) and the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) to raid and arrest criminals in Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo Province. The action followed detection of unusually high and continuous internet service usage that raised suspicions. AIS engineers provided technical support to verify facts on the ground before the search operation.

During the raid, officers discovered computer equipment that had been modified for illegal purposes. Authorities suspended the service, seized the devices as evidence, and are pursuing legal action. Initial findings also revealed connections to multiple network service providers, which remain under investigation and subject to further action.

AIS is providing technical information and cooperating closely with the NBTC and CIB, and has filed charges against those responsible. The goal is to prevent the misuse of internet services and telecommunications infrastructure, and to minimize potential harm to the public.

AIS confirms its commitment to close cooperation with the NBTC and CIB, and will strengthen network monitoring and usage verification measures to prevent telecommunications services from being used for illegal purposes and to support online crime prevention and protection of the public.

A young woman from Khon Kaen who came to work in Phuket and became homeless has been found safe, reuniting her with her worried family.

The search began after Phuket Times shared an appeal from mother Suphawadee Saramakun, whose daughter Kanistha Thepseeda had gone missing while working on Phuket Island. Unable to contact her daughter, the mother reached out to the public for help. Reports indicated that Kanistha had become homeless—without money or a fixed address—and was last seen in the Kamala area.

On July 9, 2025, Kamala Police Station received a report from a citizen about a woman spotted near McDonald's in Kamala whose appearance matched the missing person description circulating on social media. Officers from Kamala Station, along with municipal staff, investigated and confirmed the woman was indeed Kanistha.

Authorities brought Kanistha to the police station, provided her with food, and contacted her mother to inform her of the discovery. Suphawadee traveled to Kamala Station to retrieve her daughter, and both returned safely to their home in Khon Kaen province. The search ended successfully with the family reunited.

Thai Real Estate Market Faces Intense Price Competition

Thailand's real estate market faces intense price competition as developers clear inventory and construction costs remain permanently elevated, though mid-market properties priced 4-8 million baht continue to perform relatively well.

Thai Real Estate Market Faces Intense Price Competition
6h ago Khaosod

Tritech Tangmetham, managing director of Supalai Public Company Limited, says the real estate market faces significant challenges this year with intense price competition as developers rush to clear existing inventory. New project launches have dropped sharply compared to previous years. "The market remains difficult with ongoing price competition, forcing developers to compete considerably. New projects this year will clearly be lower than last year," he stated.

Despite the overall market slowdown, the company expects sales can still grow, supported by buyers ready to purchase who see opportunities in competitive pricing. Construction costs have permanently increased by 5-6% compared to pre-war levels. Even if the conflict ends, costs may only decrease 2-3% but won't return to original levels. Supalai's own costs rose from about 15% last year to an estimated 17% this year.

The mid-market segment, particularly homes and condos priced 4-8 million baht, remains relatively strong. The upper market continues to struggle with oversupply but limited demand, particularly affected by declining foreign buyer purchasing power and stricter land ownership controls through corporate entities.

The condominium market shows better recovery prospects than single-family homes due to consistently declining new supply over recent years. Building permit applications dropped from 12-14 projects per review cycle historically to just 2-4 projects now—roughly one-sixth of previous levels. Land prices need to fall another 10-20% before developers will commit to purchases. Currently, only about 4 major buyers remain in the land acquisition market, down from the many project developers competing previously.

Consumer Protection Agency Sues Contractor Over Abandoned Construction Job

Thailand's Consumer Protection Board is suing a contractor who abandoned 25 home construction projects after accepting payment, with the agency covering all legal costs for victims seeking refunds totaling hundreds of thousands of baht.

Consumer Protection Agency Sues Contractor Over Abandoned Construction Job

On July 9, 2026, Supamas Israphakdi, Minister Attached to the Office of the Prime Minister and chair of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), announced that the board's committee has voted to pursue civil proceedings against a contractor known as "Contractor One Hwan Jeeb" who accepted payment for home construction work and abandoned the projects. Twenty-five victims have filed complaints. The OCPB, working with police and the Dhamrong Center, has been assisting all affected parties. In the initial phase, two victims have received assistance. The first victim had already paid 746,500 baht out of a 935,000 baht contract (approximately 79 percent), and the board voted to sue for the remaining 525,800 baht for incomplete work. The second victim has a signed debt acknowledgment but the contractor failed to pay; the board voted to recover 70,000 baht plus legal interest. Victims will not need to hire lawyers or pay legal fees, as the OCPB will pursue the cases to completion.

Minister Supamas instructed the OCPB to expedite its review of complaints from other affected victims in this case and urged the public planning home construction to verify contractors' backgrounds before signing contracts, pay in installments according to completed work stages rather than in advance, and keep records of all money transfers. Those who are exploited can report to the OCPB hotline 1166, the OCPB Connect application, the website ocpb.go.th, or local Dhamrong Centers nationwide.

Ayutthaya Elephants Praised for Obeying Traffic Laws

Elephants from an Ayutthaya palace have gone viral for obediently waiting at red traffic lights alongside vehicles, prompting social media users to call for humans to follow their example of road safety discipline.

Ayutthaya Elephants Praised for Obeying Traffic Laws
6h ago Khaosod

AYUTTHAYA — 9 July 2026, A convoy of elephants from the Ayutthaya Elephant Palace & Royal Kraal has won widespread praise online after a video showed the animals patiently waiting at a red traffic light alongside motorists, offering a striking reminder of the importance of road safety.

The clip, recorded at the Chikun intersection in front of Wat Ratchapraditsathan in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, quickly spread across social media after being posted by Facebook user Aunlove Love.

The footage shows several elephants, each accompanied by a mahout, stopping calmly when the traffic signal turned red. The animals waited in line beside cars and motorcycles without crossing the intersection until the light turned green.

The post was accompanied by the message: "Never get tired of this. It's so adorable. Ayutthaya's elephants know the rules and obey traffic laws. If elephants can respect traffic regulations, so can we."

The poster, 45-year-old Worakit, known as "Aun," told reporters he witnesses the scene almost every day while commuting to and from work.

He said the elephant convoy, usually consisting of four elephants walking in small groups, regularly travels along the same route to carry out activities organised by the Ayutthaya Elephant Palace & Royal Kraal.

According to Worakit, whenever the traffic light at the Chikun intersection changes to yellow or red, every elephant stops immediately and waits until the signal turns green before continuing, strictly following traffic regulations.

"I've always been impressed by this sight," he said. "Sometimes you still see motorists running red lights, yet these elephants patiently wait. I wanted to share the video as a reminder that everyone should respect traffic rules."

The post has since attracted thousands of reactions, comments and shares, with many social media users praising both the elephants' discipline and the training provided by their mahouts.

Many commenters said the scene reflected an important lesson for society, noting that if even elephants can wait for a green light, motorists should be able to do the same.

While seemingly an ordinary moment on the road, the viral video has become a symbol of responsible road use, reminding the public that obeying traffic laws helps reduce accidents, prevent injuries and save lives.

As many online users commented, waiting just a few extra moments at a red light could make all the difference in ensuring everyone's safety.
