A 1-year-11-month-old girl has died following abuse by a 31-year-old man, the new partner of her grandmother, in Chachoengsao province. Police received notification of the unusual death at Plaeng Yao Hospital on August 1 at 9 p.m. The child's body bore bruising across her entire body and genital injuries inconsistent with a fall.

The child's father, 26-year-old Rueang Sak (surname withheld), stated that he and the child's mother had separated, making him a single parent. He hired 31-year-old Sai Yan (surname withheld), the new husband of his mother-in-law, to help care for his daughter beginning July 4. On July 31 at 4:30 p.m., he received a call that his daughter had fallen down the stairs with bruises. She was rushed to Plaeng Yao Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 9 p.m.

Initial autopsy results indicated the child died from bleeding in the brain caused by severe blunt force trauma to the head. Police brought Sai Yan in for questioning, during which he confessed to causing the child's death. He has been detained and charged. Further detailed autopsy of the injuries and genital trauma is ongoing to support the prosecution.

The National Anti-Corruption Fund (NAAC) is driving a creative awareness-building initiative titled "Anti-Corruption Drama Workshop: Youth Against Corruption in the Eastern Region" to instill ethics and moral values in the younger generation. At 12:10 a.m. on August 2, 2025, senior police commanders, including Gen. Siam Bunsombun, led a raid with more than 100 officers and special forces armed with weapons and tactical equipment to surround a condominium unit in Kannayao district. The operation targeted Noparat, known as Bangsan, 23, who was suspected of shooting and killing one person and wounding two others at Bung Thong Luang Temple in the Ladphrao area around 5 p.m. on August 1.

After the temple shooting, Bangsan and his girlfriend fled to a second-floor room in a condominium where he rented a unit. Police negotiators attempted to persuade him to surrender without success. At 2:14 a.m., officers heard two gunshots from inside the room. When special forces entered, they found Bangsan's girlfriend and learned that Bangsan had shot himself. He was rushed to Sinnapat Hospital and pronounced dead at 3:45 a.m. from a gunshot wound to the head.

According to police investigation, Bangsan opened fire at the temple following a personal dispute and revenge related to his girlfriend's friendship with the victim's wife. The incident escalated after heated arguments when the victim died at the temple. Bangsan harbored accumulated anger toward the victim, brought a gun, committed the shooting, and later ended his life while hiding in the rental room. Police are continuing to question the girlfriend and others present at the incident to complete the legal case file.

The Department of Corrections issued a clarification statement on August 1 responding to media and public questions about the prison system and the release of serious offenders back into society, which has raised public safety concerns and affected tourism in Chon Buri province. The department expressed sincere condolences to families of victims of this shocking incident and explained that both former inmates were strictly controlled under court sentences and released upon sentence completion.

Thana ("Pong") Geot Thong was transferred from Pattaya Special Prison to Rayong Central Prison on February 22, 2021, for attempted murder, illegal weapons violations, and drug offenses, with a sentence of 7 years, 7 months, and 25 days, expiring on June 5, 2026. Throughout his imprisonment, he received no special benefits such as royal pardons, sentence suspension, or time reduction and was released upon sentence completion as ordered by the court.

Thangchai Srinon was convicted of methamphetamine use and was normally released from Pattaya Special Prison on September 3, 2025, and was not subject to the JSOC law.

The Department of Corrections affirmed that it did not abandon or neglect its responsibility for preventing recidivism but acted fully within its legal authority, from imprisonment through release, including inmate classification, risk assessment, court recommendations for post-release monitoring, and information sharing with relevant agencies to enable proper supervision and behavioral control of released offenders according to court conditions, and remains ready to coordinate behavioral intelligence with relevant agencies to support prosecutions and close legal gaps to safeguard public life and property to the fullest extent.

At 3:30 p.m. on August 1, 2026, investigators from Huay Kwang Police Station received a report that a police sergeant could not be reached by his family at an apartment in Din Daeng, Bangkok. Upon arrival, friends and relatives found the room locked from the inside with no response to calls. After opening the door and finding no one inside, officers checked his parked car below the building and discovered him lying unresponsive on the front seat. Smoking apparatus was found inside the vehicle, and he was confirmed dead.

According to accounts, the officer's mother had called Din Daeng Police Station saying she could not contact her son and asked them to check on him. A friend then traveled to his apartment and notified police, who assisted in the investigation until the body was discovered.

Relatives suggested the cause may have been related to personal romantic issues. His commanding officer stated that the sergeant was a dedicated worker who had received an award for outstanding investigative performance and showed no signs of depression. The Huay Kwang Police Station investigation team sent the body for autopsy and is coordinating with relatives for funeral arrangements.

Police summoned Fluke, a suspect in the five-body murder and burial case, for additional questioning on the evening of August 1. Colonel Phasakorn Paijitnit, superintendent of Chonburi Provincial Police Region, disclosed that investigators still have multiple issues requiring clarification and detailed examination to strengthen the case and expand their findings. The interrogation builds on police leads combined with public information, with numerous points still needing verification, though no new evidence linking additional crimes has been uncovered so far.

Authorities vow to continue thorough examination of all information to ensure a complete and rigorous case, and any additional evidence discovered will be incorporated into legal proceedings. After questioning, Fluke was returned to Na Jomtien Police Station for security, with another interrogation scheduled for the following day to verify facts surrounding remaining points of suspicion.
