Anti-Corruption Theater Project Enlists Youth With Actress Mint Chalida
Youth across Thailand's Eastern Region are collaborating with actress Mint Chalida and fellow performers to write and stage anti-corruption plays, helping young people understand how dishonesty affects society and their future.
The National Anti-Corruption Fund (NAAC) is driving a creative awareness-building initiative titled "Anti-Corruption Drama Workshop: Youth Against Corruption in the Eastern Region" to instill ethics and moral values in the younger generation. The project creates a platform for children and youth to express themselves, collaborate on writing plays that address corruption from their perspective, and build psychological defenses for a transparent and sustainable Thai society.
The project's centerpiece is an opportunity for participating youth to perform short plays alongside celebrated actress Mint Chalida Vijitrwongthong and actors Jub Jaeng Wimonpan, Chaleejangha, Tar Pongthanit, and Jitraranon. These artists serve as mentors and role models, sharing experiences and performing alongside students from Dara Samuthorn School in Si Racha, creating an atmosphere filled with excitement and positive energy.
Key benefits include developing critical thinking by allowing youth to write, analyze, and interpret corruption problems firsthand, helping them grasp the profound impact of corruption on society beyond mere theory. The initiative also develops life skills through theatrical arts, building confidence, teamwork, responsibility, and creative communication. When the youth-created plays are shared publicly, they become a voice resonating through families, schools, and communities, raising awareness of the importance of integrity.
Working with role models like Mint Chalida not only builds children's confidence but also leverages celebrity influence to effectively advance social causes. Student Jirachatya Singhasenanee reflected: "At first, I thought corruption was just an adult problem, but by working together to write and interpret the issue, I realized that dishonesty from our school days impacts our country's future." Fellow student Gawintip Bunma added: "We're proud to use our voices through theater to send a message that Thai youth will not tolerate corruption."
Participation in this project develops performance and teamwork skills while fostering responsible citizens who understand the importance of integrity—a cornerstone for the country's future development. The anti-corruption drama project is more than entertainment; it is a learning space that unites youth and community members in building a better society.
