Elderly Man Rescued as Fire Destroys Nakhon Nayok Home
A 94-year-old man was safely evacuated as a two-story wooden house in Nakhon Nayok caught fire on July 15, with firefighters suspecting faulty electrical wiring at a pole connection caused the blaze.
A two-story wooden house with a concrete ground floor caught fire in a narrow alley beside Krung Thai Bank's Nakhon Nayok branch on July 15. The fire was reported by Ketkhaew Praphasiri, the homeowner's daughter, who witnessed the incident. Firefighting teams from Nakhon Nayok Municipality faced access challenges due to the narrow soi but managed to spray water on the fierce blaze on the second floor. Backup water trucks from nearby sub-districts assisted in containing the fire around the perimeter, successfully extinguishing it after approximately 30 minutes.
Ketkhaew reported hearing an explosion-like sound from the electrical pole inside the house, which had malfunctioned previously. She saw flames at the top of the pole followed by multiple popping sounds and thick smoke. Her 94-year-old father was safely brought outside. Wooden teak cabinets and furniture were destroyed in the fire.
Electricity workers from Nakhon Nayok Province investigated the scene and cut power to prevent hazards. They suspect the fire was caused by electrical short-circuiting inside the house, with current flowing back to the connection point at the electrical pole, evidenced by scorch marks. Upon inspection, officials found multiple extension cords connected at the pole, which is not standard practice. Proper installation would route the main line directly to the house breaker. The unstable electrical configuration at the pole connection point likely caused the electrical fault.
