Buriram SAO Worker Pressured to Sign False Confession
Buriram SAO officials pressured a contract worker to sign a false confession withdrawing her abuse complaints, threatening disciplinary action if she refused.
The case of Ms. A (pseudonym), a 42-year-old contract worker serving as an assistant public relations officer at a subdistrict administrative organization (SAO) in Buriram province, continues. She has spoken to the media and filed a complaint with the Provincial Ombudsman Center at the Buriram Provincial Hall, alleging the SAO secretary abused his power to push her out of her position. He reportedly summoned her to his office multiple times, shouting insults to make her quit. Following previous coverage, on October 25, 2026, Ms. A revealed that after the incident, officials from the provincial administration, the Ku Mueang district administration, and the Ombudsman Center visited the SAO to investigate. She did not attend the multi-party meeting. Around 11:00 AM on October 22, the officials left. However, around 4:00 PM the same day, she was called to a conference room where the SAO president, secretary, and legal officer were present. They handed her a document to sign. It stated she had posted damaging information online herself, causing harm to the organization, and required her to agree to three conditions: withdraw the complaint against the secretary, withdraw the Ombudsman complaint, and withdraw the complaint to the provincial administration. Ms. A said reading it made her feel disadvantaged and could lead to a countersuit by the secretary. She protested that she was the victim, not the perpetrator. The legal officer then told her signing would help her avoid a disciplinary investigation, reducing a heavy penalty to a light one. She refused because the document was false. She stated she is just a low-level contract worker, asking why so many people are ganging up on her. She is ready to withdraw all complaints but notes that since the incident, no one has tried to resolve it through dialogue, especially the secretary, who still won't look her in the eye. She is willing to do whatever it takes, as long as it is done correctly.
