At 1:30 p.m. on July 13, 2024, police from Panasnikhom Station and rescue units from Baan Thung Hiang received reports of a fatal accident on Khlong Muang Road in tambon Tha Boonmee, Ko Samui district, Chachoengsao province. Officers found a blue 10-wheel Isuzu truck (license plate 70-3282, Lopburi) overturned on its driver's side with chicken crates still loaded in the bed. The driver was trapped beneath the vehicle. Rescue teams coordinated with a private excavator and crane to lift the truck while volunteers unloaded chicken crates to reduce weight on the victim. After approximately one hour of operations, rescue workers reached the victim, who was unconscious at the truck's rear. Medical examination revealed the driver had been crushed by the rear wheel and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was later identified as Sommaai, age 47. A nearby shop owner reported that the truck had been parked near a waste bin about 100 meters away. The driver had stepped into the shop to make a purchase, but within seconds the truck rolled downhill on a curved section of road. The driver rushed out trying to catch the truck and stop it, but the vehicle lost control, overturned, and crushed him severely. Udorn Pasangchob, 64, a volunteer rescue worker from Baan Thung Hiang, stated that when they arrived, they found the truck had been parked on the roadside before rolling downhill. The driver attempted to run after it to stop it, but the unexpected incident occurred and the truck veered, overturned, and fatally crushed the driver. Police documented the scene, collected evidence, and forwarded the body for autopsy while conducting a full investigation into the accident.

The State Property Fund has revived the Mochit Complex project, a major mixed-use development on prime Bangkok land that has stalled for over three decades, aiming to generate 1.25 billion baht in state revenue.

Akkrut Santhayanan, director-general of the State Property Fund, revealed positive momentum on the Mochit Complex project—a real estate development at the former bus terminal site—after a 32-year delay since 1992. Bangkok Terminal Company (BKT), the original concession holder, is now moving forward under the existing contract without renegotiating. The project concept design is expected to be finalized soon.

"My goal is to push this project forward within the next year before my retirement, achieving clear and tangible results," he stated.

If the project succeeds, it is projected to generate approximately 1.25 billion baht in revenue for the Ministry of Finance through two main streams: an upfront fee of around 400 million baht, and recovery payments from funds previously advanced to the Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) to lay foundational infrastructure for future real estate development.

The development framework remains unchanged: the project will utilize approximately 700,000 square meters, allowing the private developer to construct hotels, shopping malls, or residential units as appropriate, with the requirement to reserve 1,000 square meters for a bus terminal.

Recently, plans for an elevated link connecting Vibhavadi Rangsit Road and Don Muang tollway have been canceled, eliminating the need for additional land acquisition and allowing normal road access to be restored.

The concession period follows cabinet resolution, setting a 50-year term divided into 30+10+10 years. However, the timeline does not begin until construction is completed.

Tik was among those who barely made it out alive—he had just left the stage to go to the bathroom when the fire started, allowing him to escape in time.

YLG forecasts continued baht weakness in the second half of 2024 due to lingering U.S. Federal Reserve rate uncertainty and high global oil prices, which should keep Thai gold prices buoyed despite weakness in global gold markets. Rescue workers had to wear full protective gear and air tanks while working inside due to thick smoke and toxic fumes, with some experiencing fainting spells. The operation confirmed 27 deaths inside the building and eight injured transported to hospitals.
