Corrections Department Confirms Thaksin's Sentence Suspension; Must Wear EM Bracelet for Remaining 4 Months
The Justice Ministry's sentence suspension committee approved early release for former PM Thaksin after serving nearly 8 months of his one-year sentence, with his supervised probation set to begin May 11 and require an electronic monitoring
On April 29, 2569, the Justice Ministry's sentence suspension committee, chaired by Deputy Permanent Secretary of Justice Tharinee Saengswang and assigned by Permanent Secretary Pongswat Neelaoyothin, convened to review and approve eligible inmates across the country who met the criteria for general sentence suspension. Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who has been held at Klong Prem Central Prison since September 9, 2568, was among those considered. Having served 7 months and 20 days with only 12 days remaining to complete two-thirds of his one-year sentence, the committee unanimously approved his qualification for sentence suspension. The meeting decision will be forwarded to Klong Prem Central Prison authorities, and Thaksin will be released into supervised probation on May 11, 2569, for an additional 4 months. The Corrections Department confirmed that the subcommittee's fourth meeting of 2569 approved special circumstance sentence suspensions for 10 individuals, including Thaksin, all of whom must wear electronic monitoring (EM) devices until their sentences are fully completed.
