Couple Dies After Truck Hits Power Pole in Rain
A pickup truck struck a power pole on a rain-slicked curve in Phatthalung Province on July 1, killing a 63-year-old driver trapped in the crushed cabin and his 59-year-old wife who was ejected from the vehicle.
At 10:26 a.m. on July 1, 2026, investigator Phunonth Rueang Ying from Khao Chai Sohn Police Station, along with rescue personnel, responded to a pickup truck that had overturned on the Asia Highway northbound near Ban Koh Thong Som, Moo 12, Khao Chai Sohn Subdistrict, Khao Chai Sohn District, Phatthalung Province.
The accident occurred on a curved section of the highway during rainfall, which had made the road surface slippery. Officers found a Toyota Tiger pickup lying on its side with the front severely crushed after striking a power pole with such force that the cabin collapsed. Inside the vehicle, rescuers found the body of Prasop Chok, 63, trapped in the crushed cabin. Rescue personnel used cutting equipment to extract the body before confirming death at the scene. The passenger, Ms. Chom, 59, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the roadside.
Initial investigation suggests the vehicle lost control while navigating the curve during heavy rain and wet road conditions, then struck the power pole forcefully. This caused the cabin to collapse, trapping the driver inside while ejecting the passenger. Both occupants died at the scene. Document checks revealed both victims were from the same address in Trang Province and are believed to have been husband and wife returning from an errand when the accident occurred.
Property damage was assessed as intact. Authorities are now contacting relatives to claim the bodies and continuing their investigation into the actual cause of the accident for legal proceedings.
