Sarawut Charoenyot, and officers from Phalap Phlai Chai Station 1 arrested 34-year-old Chai and seized 0.64 grams of ice, one shotgun, 20 shotgun rounds, 6 .22 caliber rounds, and .38 caliber ammunition.

The operation began on June 29 when traffic police conducted enforcement in their jurisdiction. On Charoen Krung Road, officers immobilized a white Isuzu vehicle and issued a traffic citation. When Chai arrived at Phalap Phlai Chai Station 1 to pay his fine, his suspicious behavior prompted further investigation. Officers Pol. Sgt. Ranyut Deebuk and Pol. Sgt. Nattapol Muhammed followed Chai to his vehicle and requested a search.

Police discovered 0.64 grams of ice hidden in a black shoulder bag and one shotgun with ammunition concealed behind the driver's seat in a gray weapons bag. During interrogation, Chai admitted the drugs and firearm belonged to him. He stated he purchased ice for 100 baht per packet from an unknown dealer near his residence and bought the gun and ammunition from a friend for approximately 18,000 baht.

Chaiwascharged with possession of Category 1 controlled substances without authorization, possession of firearms and ammunition without a license from the registrar, and carrying firearms in city limits, residential areas, or public places without proper authorization.

Rising actor Em Bhumipattra Thavasinsiri is tackling his biggest challenge yet with the large-scale stage production "Once Again...The More It Hurts, The More I Remember, The More I Love." Performing at the 1,500-seat Rachadalai Theatre, Em acknowledges both his excitement and anxiety about reaching audiences seated far from the stage, marking his first major theater production.

In an interview, Em explained the scale of the challenge. "This is my first large-scale theater production. The Rachadalai Theatre seats 1,500 people, which is difficult. It's a completely different format from the smaller 200-seat venues I've worked in before. The acting techniques, directing, and stage presence all differ significantly. That's why I said yes to this project—I wanted to discover how to perform at this scale so that even people in the back row feel what the character feels."

Em will star alongside Perth Veeranithat Siraphan, an actress he admires despite never having worked with her before. "I've seen Perth's performances and watched her in the film 'Mae Soo.' I think she's an incredibly skilled actress who completely transforms into her characters, completely different from who she is in real life. She's a new generation actress who I can confidently say is very talented and deeply understands acting."

When asked about finding chemistry with Perth, Em noted their different acting approaches. "Perth has much more experience than me, especially in series and television work. She has the technique to enter and exit scenes sharply. When a character needs an emotion, she can be that immediately. I'm more like a diesel engine—I start slowly. Perth is like an electric EV car; she hits 200 and she's at 200."

Em's character is 25 years old—significantly different from the actor himself. "The character is very young and vibrant, with qualities I don't have. I'm an old, silly, overweight cat that doesn't want to play anymore. But this character is like a young, energetic Beagle puppy. We're completely different, but I have to try to become that."

When asked about the expectations that come with his reputation as a quality actor, Em was candid about the pressure. "People set their guard up. If I'm cast in a role, they expect a villain reveal later, which I've stopped doing. It spoils the surprise. There's a branding aspect to my reputation, but the downside is that people guard their expectations. It's like telling a joke—people wait for the punchline. Managing expectations is crucial to artistic impact, but setting expectations is also unavoidable for marketing.

"I'm happy when people say they watch Thai films because of me, but it also pressures me. Every time I perform, I still don't feel safe. Before every action scene, before rehearsal, I'm still nervous. The excitement never goes away—only the audience's expectations grow as I get older."

On whether he sees himself as having a full glass, Em reflected philosophically. "I think everyone's glass is both full and empty. Every time we think it's full, it becomes empty. We must constantly refill, check, and explore ourselves. I'm not someone who constantly self-examines—I wait for others to tell me. But self-awareness is most important. I try to understand what I'm feeling and what I'm thinking."

The task force will gather data and proposals from businesses to present to the Tourism and SME Sub-Committee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supachai Suthammaphand. Representatives from major tourism industry associations—including the Domestic Tourism Business Association, Thai Tour Operator Association, Thai Tourism Business Association (ATTA), Thai Tourism Industry Association, Thai Tour Guide Association, Hotel Association, and Transportation Operator Association—will be invited to provide input ensuring measures address all stakeholders.

Minister Surasak emphasized that stimulus measures will not be limited to meal and accommodation support alone. They will also cover transportation costs, such as assistance for bus operators and tour coaches, to distribute revenue more widely across the tourism supply chain. The approach will consider the number of benefits, benefit value proportions, promotion of both major and secondary cities, and appropriate incentives for both weekdays and weekends to maximize public accessibility.

The task force will meet with relevant agencies and the private sector within the coming week to finalize all measure details before submitting to the government's Tourism Sub-Committee for consideration. The ministry will prioritize input from all business sectors.

Regarding implementation, the Tourism Ministry has decided not to develop a new application for registration and benefits. Instead, it will use existing platforms that the public already knows, reducing confusion and improving accessibility. The "Pao Tang" mobile application system may be adapted for benefit distribution.

On the same day, Minister Surasak announced enforcement measures to strengthen tourism confidence and law enforcement. The ministry is preparing to establish a task force to combat illegal businesses and nominalism in tourism through tourism police and related agencies. "Rapid-response teams" will conduct ongoing operations at major tourist destinations nationwide to eliminate nominal businesses, influential figures, and illegal activities damaging Thailand's tourism image.

The ministry has directed tourism police to intensify scrutiny of foreign tourists committing offenses, overstaying visas, or using Thailand as a base for illegal activities. Airport security and passenger screening remain under the jurisdiction of relevant agencies, with the government directing enhanced coordination.

BANGKOK — 1 July 2026, Thailand has been ranked the best country in Asia and ninth globally as a retirement destination in the Global Retirement Index 2026, according to the government, which said it will continue promoting the country as a leading destination for retirees from around the world.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Perisvivatana said on Wednesday that Thailand was ranked ninth worldwide and first in Asia by International Living, a leading US media outlet specializing in overseas living and retirement, receiving an overall score of 80.0 points.

The ranking evaluates seven key factors: housing, visas and retirement benefits, cost of living, development and governance, climate, healthcare, and overall lifestyle suitability. The assessment is based on input from experts, correspondents and expatriates living in each country.

The results reflect Thailand's potential as a global retirement destination, citing its quality of life, healthcare system and welcoming living environment.

Lalida said Thailand received its highest score in the cost-of-living category, earning 96 points, reflecting the value it offers relative to the quality of life provided. It was followed by 84 points for development and governance, demonstrating the country's readiness in infrastructure and public administration. Thailand also scored 79 points each for healthcare and retirement visas and benefits, highlighting its internationally recognized medical standards and policies that make the country an attractive destination for retirees from around the world.

The ranking aligns with the government's policy of elevating Thailand into a global Medical and Wellness Hub. The administration is moving forward with developing the medical and wellness industry while promoting wellness tourism, elderly care and high-value medical services.

It also pledged to improve healthcare services, strengthen infrastructure and create a supportive living environment for both Thai citizens and foreigners, while promoting the country as a regional centre for the health economy.

The government said it would continue efforts to position Thailand as a global retirement destination, with the aim of generating tourism and healthcare revenue, attracting investment and sustainably distributing economic opportunities to the public.

PATTAYA — A 28-year-old employee was killed after becoming trapped in a fire that tore through an unlicensed host bar in Pattaya early on 1 July 2026, authorities said.

The Pattaya City Land Disaster Relief Radio Center received a report of the blaze at 00:16. The fire broke out at the Catwalk entertainment venue in Soi Chalerm Phrakiat 29, Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province.

Police from Pattaya City Police Station, Bang Lamung district administrative officials, Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan rescue workers and firefighters were dispatched to the scene.

The fire engulfed the pub-style host bar, sending thick smoke billowing into the air. Firefighters deployed three fire engines to contain the blaze. A private groundwater delivery truck passing nearby also joined the effort by supplying water to help extinguish the flames.

It took firefighters more than 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Investigators found the fire had started near the venue's entrance. Inside, they discovered the body of Thanaphon Boonchan, 28, an employee of the bar. He was found dead beneath a table after apparently being unable to escape as the flames spread.

Somchai Nawacharoen, 63, the owner of the groundwater delivery truck, said he had been making a delivery to a nearby business when he spotted the fire and immediately reversed his vehicle to help firefighters by spraying water on the flames.

Other employees told police they received a phone call from a colleague who was inside the venue reporting the fire. They rushed to the scene, where a worker said the blaze appeared to begin near the roof before spreading toward the exit. Everyone attempted to flee, but the victim was not seen leaving and is believed to have been trapped inside.

A preliminary investigation found the entertainment venue was operating without a licence. Authorities also said the victim was unable to escape because the fire blocked the main exit, while the premises had no emergency exit.

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Forensic police will conduct a detailed examination to establish the origin of the blaze.

BANGKOK — Thailand's Department of Mineral Resources has warned of possible landslides and flash floods in 13 provinces over the next two to three days due to persistent heavy rain.

The Department's Geohazard Operations Center issued the alert, urging its volunteer monitoring network and residents in at-risk areas to remain vigilant between 1–3 July 2026.

The provinces under the warning are Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Tak, Nan, Phitsanulok, Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi and Trang.

The department said a monsoon trough stretching across northern Thailand and the upper Northeast, combined with a strengthening southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand, is expected to bring continued heavy rainfall.

Rainfall has already exceeded 100 millimetres in some areas over the past 24 hours, with flash floods beginning in several locations, increasing the risk of landslides.

Authorities have instructed geohazard monitoring volunteers to closely monitor rainfall, remain on alert, warn local communities of any landslide or flash flood threats, notify relevant agencies and follow established emergency response plans.

Casio has opened lottery registration in Japan for a limited-edition G-SHOCK x Pokémon watch celebrating the franchise's 30th anniversary, bringing together two collector-heavy worlds: Pokémon nostalgia and one of G-SHOCK's most recognisable modern silhouettes.

The watch features a transparent case accented with colour details referencing the original Pokémon Red, Green and Blue games. Its strap is printed with illustrations of 30 Pokémon to commemorate the anniversary, while the subdial is designed as a Poké Ball and the hands are inspired by Pikachu's tail. Additionally, the case back is engraved with a 30th anniversary logo, and the watch comes in a Poké Ball-shaped box designed specifically for this release.
