Deputy AMLO Chief Warns Influencers Over Charity Fraud Probe
Deputy AMLO chief Pol.Lt.Col. Nittichot Penjamras said the agency is investigating a major charity donation case and may expand probes based on evidence. He confirmed AMLO can self-initiate investigations into predicate offenses. Reporter Num Karachai warned influencers not to misuse public donations, stating that millions of baht circulate among foundations and those who exploit public trust will face consequences.
On the program 'Hono Krasae #7 Monsoon' hosted by Boom Panadda, reporter Num Karachai questioned Pol.Lt.Col. Nittichot Penjamras, Deputy Secretary-General of the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO), about whether other foundations are under scrutiny. Pol.Lt.Col. Nittichot replied that they are currently focused on this case, but whether other foundations are involved depends on what the investigation uncovers. He added that the public can submit information, though not every small or large foundation will be automatically investigated.
When Ekaphap Luangprasert asked if AMLO can investigate on its own without a formal complaint, Pol.Lt.Col. Nittichot confirmed they can initiate probes into predicate offenses, but sometimes a victim must come forward to complete the elements of the offense.
Num Karachai stated that donation money from public faith circulates among foundations in amounts of hundreds of thousands to millions of baht. He urged that if funds are used properly, they support the poor and needy who donate out of devotion. He warned influencers not to exploit public trust for personal benefit, addressing both Boom and other influencers watching: 'If you do wrong, you will not escape.'
Asked if this case resembles previous ones, Pol.Lt.Col. Nittichot said large-scale donation solicitation posts appear to be a first; prior cases involved monks or chain-sharing scams, but those circuits break quickly.
