A vehicle smuggling narcotics broke through a drug checkpoint and fled from Phrae toward Sukhothai before being abandoned on the roadside, with authorities discovering 21 bags of methamphetamine and crystal methamphetamine mixed together. At 7:22 AM on May 25, 2026, Police Major Thanet Wibul-kiat, commander of Wang Chin Police Station, received notification from Deputy Commander Phanuruj Sang-sroy, Lieutenant Adul Thao-kham, and Sub-Lieutenant Mitra Tui-niw of the Had Raew Checkpoint that Region 5's Narcotics Interception Center had coordinated a search for a suspicious vehicle allegedly carrying large quantities of drugs that would use the Had Raew Checkpoint route.
Shortly after, a gray-black Chevrolet with Chiang Rai license plates matching the alert description was spotted traveling from Wang Chin District toward Si Satchanalai District in Sukhothai. Upon arriving at Had Raew Checkpoint, officers signaled the vehicle to stop for inspection due to suspicion of concealed contraband. When the driver saw police approaching to inspect the vehicle, they refused the search, accelerated across lanes to another lane, and broke through the checkpoint heading toward Si Satchanalai District in Sukhothai.
Officers at Had Raew Checkpoint pursued and coordinated with Si Satchanalai Police Station for interception. The suspicious vehicle was found abandoned on the roadside on Sumen-Had Khe Road, Moo 24, Mae Sin Subdistrict, Si Satchanalai District in Sukhothai, with no driver or passengers present. In coordination with Si Satchanalai Police Station and Sukhothai provincial officers, a preliminary inspection discovered methamphetamine and crystal methamphetamine mixed together in 21 bags. Wang Chin Police Station will proceed with charges against the perpetrators for breaking through the narcotics checkpoint and fleeing according to law.
Police Major Thanet Wibul-kiat, commander of Wang Chin Police Station, stated that Si Satchanalai Police Station is currently intensively pursuing the suspects who fled into the forest. Since the contraband was discovered in Si Satchanalai Police Station's jurisdiction, the case will be handled by that station.
