Police Intercept Drug Pickup Truck, Nab 8 Million Methamphetamine Pills
26 Jul Khaosod

Police intercepted a pickup truck carrying 8 million methamphetamine pills on July 26, 2025, after residents reported multiple gunshots near a traffic light intersection on Pholyothin Road in Muang Lopburi District. Over 20 armed metropolitan police officers were pursuing a suspected drug trafficking operation when they spotted a bronze Toyota Tiger pickup truck and attempted to intercept it. When the suspects tried to escape, officers shot out all four tires to stop the vehicle.

Searching the truck, police found 40 fertilizer sacks containing approximately 8 million methamphetamine pills hidden inside, worth over 40 million baht. The two suspects refused to surrender and fled into the forest on foot, evading police searches despite intensive efforts to locate them. Police believe the large drug shipment was being transported from northern Thailand through Lopburi Province toward Saraburi Province during the Buddhist Lent holiday break, with plans to eventually reach neighboring countries.

When the suspects realized they were being pursued, they accelerated to escape and attempted to break through the police cordon toward Phraputthabat District. Officers were forced to use firearms to disable the vehicle. After the truck stopped, both suspects fled into nearby forest using darkness to evade capture despite police cordoning and searching the area.

Detailed examination of the seized vehicle confirmed 40 sacks of fertilizer containing approximately 8 million methamphetamine pills valued at over 40 million baht. Police believe this batch was being stored in the central region before being forwarded to neighboring countries, where its street value would increase many times over. Police are still withholding details as they expand the investigation into the trafficking network and are examining the truck's ownership to question the registered owner about possible involvement. The vehicle and all methamphetamine seized have been documented at Muang Lopburi Police Station and submitted for fingerprint analysis and forensic examination to identify other network members for prosecution.

Construction Worker Says Online Date Set Up Gang Attack
26 Jul Khaosod

A 20-year-old construction worker in Udon Thani has filed a police complaint after allegedly being lured to meet a woman he met online before being chased and beaten by a group of about 10 men, including her alleged ex-boyfriend.

At 18:00 on 25 July 2026, the man's mother, identified by the pseudonym Nuch, 45, took her son, identified as Breeze, to file a complaint with police at Mueang Udon Thani Police Station.

Breeze told police that he works in his family's construction business and installs solar panels. He said he is single and has no family of his own.

He said he met a 20-year-old woman, identified by the pseudonym Nong, on social media in late June. They had been talking for about a month, and she told him she had broken up with her boyfriend and was single.

Breeze said a man claiming to be Nong's ex-boyfriend later sent him threatening messages, warning him to stay away from her and saying he would face a gun if he did not. Breeze said he responded by challenging the man to meet him one-on-one.

He said he later asked Nong about the man and she continued to insist that they had already broken up.

Before the attack, Nong allegedly messaged Breeze and asked him to pick her up at a resort near the Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University Udon Thani Campus stadium. She reportedly asked him to drop her off behind the Bo Bae Market.

At around 00:30 on 25 July, Breeze rode his motorcycle to meet her. Before reaching the meeting point, he stopped and watched from a distance. He said he saw Nong with about 10 young men gathered in front of the stadium, one of whom was allegedly her ex-boyfriend.

When Nong saw him, she walked towards him, while the group followed on motorcycles. Fearing for his safety, Breeze said he rode away. About 300 metres later, he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed.

He alleged that the group then surrounded him and attacked him, hitting him with motorcycle helmets, kicking and punching him. The assault stopped after he pleaded with them to stop, and the group then fled.

Breeze suffered bruising around his eyes, a split lip requiring two stitches, swelling on his head and abrasions on his knee from the crash. He said he later vomited blood after returning home, prompting his mother to take him to hospital. After being discharged that afternoon, he went to police to pursue legal action.

"I believe Nong lured me out so her ex-boyfriend's group could attack me. Ten against one is not fair. It's not manly. If they're brave enough, they should face me one-on-one," Breeze said.

His mother said her son had been out of the house for only about 20 minutes before returning covered in blood. He soon vomited blood, so she took him to hospital.

She urged people to be careful when starting relationships and to make sure the person they are seeing is not already in a relationship.

"Luckily, the weapon used was only a motorcycle helmet, not a knife, stick or other sharp object. Being attacked 10 against one and surviving is already lucky," she said.

Thailand's Fuel Consumption Falls 11.2% as E20-B20 Gains

Thailand's overall fuel consumption dropped 11.2% in April 2025, though ethanol blend E20 and biodiesel B20 continued climbing due to government promotion programs and favorable pricing.

Thailand's Fuel Consumption Falls 11.2% as E20-B20 Gains
26 Jul Khaosod

The Energy Business Department has reported that Thailand's fuel consumption in April 2025 declined 11.2% compared to the same period last year, averaging 142.62 million liters per day and dropping 18.2% from March, reflecting broader economic slowdown. Saravuth Kaeotatip, director-general of the Energy Business Department, said the decline was reflected across gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and natural gas vehicle fuel (NGV), though ethanol blend E20 and biodiesel B20 continued to grow due to state biofuel promotion programs.

Gasoline consumption fell 9.5% to 29.23 million liters per day, with standard 91 and 95 octane grades declining while E20 gasoline surged 14% to 6.12 million liters daily, driven by favorable pricing. Diesel consumption dropped sharply by 17.2% to 57 million liters per day amid economic contraction and reduced private sector activity, though B20 biodiesel climbed to 1.04 million liters daily due to government incentives and expanded service stations.

Aircraft fuel (Jet A1) usage fell 2.5% to 17.04 million liters per day as tourism contracted and Middle Eastern tensions raised fuel costs, while fuel oil rose 3.6% to 5.18 million liters daily alongside manufacturing and export growth. LPG consumption declined 4.4% to 17.76 million kilograms per day due to reduced petrochemical and transport demand, and NGV plummeted 23% to 2.03 million kilograms daily as service stations dwindled to 258 locations.

Fuel imports fell 26.4% to 834,782 barrels per day, though import values increased 17% due to higher global crude prices as Thailand sourced crude from alternative suppliers to reduce Middle Eastern dependence. Refined fuel exports dropped 41.1% to 94,190 barrels per day following a government export suspension to preserve domestic supply.

Over 600 Ancient Buddha Amulets Unearthed at Ratchaburi Temple
25 Jul Khaosod

A remarkable discovery was made at Wat Khlong Suwan Kiri in Ratchaburi when workers demolishing a hall to build a new one uncovered two ancient ceramic vessels containing over 600 powder Buddha amulets buried beneath the base of a large Buddha statue. The amulets bear the imprint of Luang Pu Phu from Wat Indrawihan, Bangkok, a venerated monk from an earlier era and a contemporary of the revered Somdej Toh of Wat Rakang.

The first vessel yielded 295 amulets, while the second contained 328, for a combined total of 623 pieces in varying conditions. Some show intact surfaces with patina, while others are discolored or fragmented into pieces. The amulets include several styles: large and medium-sized pieces, square forms, roof-topped variants, seven-tiered designs, and rounded-arm styles. However, scholars have not yet confirmed whether they are definitively from Luang Pu Phu's era.

Construction workers Chittathep, 20, and Nattapol, 34, who discovered the vessels while clearing a corner of the hall, recalled being startled to find the ancient ceramic containers filled with Buddha amulets. They immediately reported the discovery to the abbot. The abbot, Phra Khru Bai Tikasupoj Theerawattho, explained that the temple is renovating its grounds and plans to relocate buildings for a better layout. The initial construction budget stands at approximately 650,000 baht, with an additional 300,000 baht allocated for interior improvements. The temple is seeking donations for the project and will later determine pricing for those wishing to sponsor individual amulet plaques. A temple committee will meet again to finalize details.

He reported the incident to Pol. Col. Nikorn Chutong, commander of Thalang Police Station, and proceeded to investigate with relevant officers.

At the scene, police found a black Suzuki Caribian pickup truck with a Phuket license plate driven by 42-year-old Myanmar national Aung Min Oo. On July 25, 2025, investigators from Na Kha Police Station received a report of a collision between a police pickup truck escorting a detainee and a motorcycle at the intersection of Ban Dong Phak Naam–Ban Du in Ban Khao subdistrict, Muang district, Udon Thani province. Both motorcycle riders sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Udon Thani Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

The two victims were identified as Sida Suwannajak, 57, and Sanguan Chansawang, 62, a husband and wife. They had been traveling by motorcycle to attend their grandchild's wedding ceremony across the street when the police escort vehicle struck them. At the scene, the pickup truck showed damage to its front bumper and bumper guards.

Investigators determined that before the accident, the couple had left their home on their motorcycle to cross the intersection and reach the wedding venue. The police pickup truck, which was en route to deposit a detainee at Udon Thani Provincial Court, struck them with considerable force.

The intersection is known to be a frequent site of accidents due to speeding vehicles passing through the residential area and reckless teenage drivers. Residents are urging relevant authorities to install traffic lights, speed-reduction warning signs, and other safety measures to prevent future serious accidents. The pickup truck driver and commander have visited the hospital to check on the injured, though no discussions regarding compensation have yet taken place with the victim's family. Police investigators are continuing to examine the scene, gather evidence, and interview witnesses to determine the cause of the accident and proceed with legal action.

Politicians Defend iLaw Director, Urge State Protection for Whistleblowers
25 Jul Khaosod

Civil society is preparing a major rally at parliament on July 26 to expose Senate election fraud and give voice to witnesses, while offering support to Pao iLaw (Yingcheep Atchanont), director of the Internet for People Law Project (iLaw), and other courageous whistleblowers. Political leaders including Deputy Opposition Leader Pricha Wattanasing will attend the event titled "Stop the Senate Fraud Scheme: Expose the Truth, Open the Witnesses' Hearts," which will invite the public, alternate senators, and former 2567 Senate candidates to participate.

Online campaigns are also supporting Pao iLaw and all whistleblowers with the message "You will never walk alone," vowing to continue fighting until the Election Commission (EC) files charges in court. Police General Thawee Sodsong, a party-list MP and Palang Pracharath Party leader, emphasized that society must protect those brave enough to expose Senate election fraud, citing a 2569 Constitutional Court ruling that establishes five key principles: strict standards for ministerial conduct and oversight; integrity as paramount; serious ethical violations resulting in lifetime disqualification from office; the state's duty to protect whistleblowers; and the need for the EC and DSI to work transparently together without political interference.

Meanwhile, Abhisit Vejjajiva, a party-list MP and Democrat Party leader, criticized politicians for filing defamation suits against Pao iLaw following his disclosure of nine individuals allegedly involved in the Senate fraud case, noting that the EC cannot withstand public scrutiny by silencing whistleblowers.

Thai Woman Files Police Report Against Italian Student Group on BTS

A Thai woman filed a police complaint against 48 Italian students who harassed her on Bangkok's BTS Skytrain after she asked them to be quiet, with their adult supervisor defending rather than disciplining the group.

25 Jul Khaosod

A 25-year-old Thai woman named Sukas filed a police complaint at Sam Saen Police Station after nearly five hours of questioning over an incident involving a group of Italian students. On the day of the incident, Sukas was traveling home on the BTS Skytrain from Siam to Bang Wa station when 48 Italian students boarded at Sala Daeng station and made loud noise throughout the journey until Chong Nonsi station. When Sukas politely asked them in English to be quiet, they responded with rude Italian remarks, crude gestures, sexual harassment, and racist bullying toward Asians. Notably, an adult supervisor accompanying the group defended the students' behavior instead of disciplining them, saying "How can a large group be quiet?" and making sarcastic comments about bringing money to Thailand. The students continued their offensive behavior until getting off at Thonburi station, while no other passengers came to Sukas's aid.

Sukas decided to file a police report to pursue legal action and to prevent such behavior from being treated as acceptable. While grateful for the public support and viral attention that led to identifying the group, she emphasized wanting sincere apologies to Thailand and Thai people collectively, not just to herself. She also urged against using violence in response, noting that it would damage Thailand's reputation. She is cooperating with police in gathering evidence for charges against the Italian students and stressed the importance of respecting others' rights, saying that a gentle warning should be sufficient to teach proper conduct.

Senators Raise Funds for Border Road in Surin

Three Surin senators raised 500,000 baht for a border road project at Chong Samet, a strategic crossing near recent Thai-Cambodian clashes, with funds covering construction costs before the rainy season.

Senators Raise Funds for Border Road in Surin
25 Jul Khaosod

On July 25, 2026, at Suttithamaram Temple in Surin, Lieutenant General Boonchan Nualsai and fellow senators Rujiphas Meekusol (Surin) and Sakol Phoolsirigun (Nakhon Phanom) presented 500,000 baht in donations collected from the "Jungle Cloth for the Nation" fundraiser to Luang Pu Yuen Khantipoло, the provincial abbot of Surin.

The funds will support road improvements at Chong Samet in Pamondongrak district, a strategically important border point where Thai forces have reinforced sovereignty following recent combat. The money covers operational costs including fuel for trucks and heavy machinery, as well as food and water for personnel constructing the 2.5-kilometer road.

The senators and local representatives organized the fundraiser after obtaining recycled asphalt materials from Highway 24 but lacking sufficient budget for construction. Lieutenant General Boonchan thanked all senators and the public for their support, emphasizing the urgency of completing the road before the rainy season to ensure continued supply and troop operations.

Regarding the Thai-Cambodian border situation in Surin, security forces maintain close surveillance of Cambodian military movements. Over the past year since recent clashes, there have been frequent provocations, though border residents continue normal activities with heightened vigilance and ongoing readiness amid unpredictable circumstances.
