A police officer's pickup truck crashed into a motorcycle carrying three family members—a mother and her two children—in a collision that has shocked the community. The impact threw all three victims in different directions; the mother landed in a drainage ditch while her 13-year-old son and younger sibling landed in the middle of the road. All three suffered severe injuries, and the mother subsequently died from her wounds. The case has drawn heavy criticism now that the driver is known to be a police officer, prompting witnesses and community members to demand justice for the grieving family.
At a funeral service held at Khlong Pla Rai Samakkitham Temple in Kamphaeng Phet province, Sergeant Major Krayangkrai, a 53-year-old officer from Khlong Lan police station, came to pay respects and apologize to the deceased's family. He presented initial financial assistance for funeral expenses and discussed compensation with community leaders, though he emphasized the money was specifically for funeral costs. Further compensation discussions will take place after religious ceremonies conclude.
The deceased woman's two daughters expressed their distress, saying they remain confused and deeply anxious about household expenses and their future, having lost their mother suddenly. They are also worried about their sibling still in critical condition in the ICU and whether he will recover fully, physically and mentally. The family lacks confidence in receiving fair compensation from the officer.
The deceased's brother said the family faces a crisis regarding the children's welfare and an uncertain future. As someone with health problems and no steady income, he is devastated by his sister's loss and deeply concerned about the children's physical and mental recovery if they survive. The family is seeking clarity and fair compensation for the children.
Sergeant Major Krayangkrai admitted he was driving the vehicle but claimed the truck rolled downhill and he lost control, causing him to hit the motorcycle from behind. He denied fleeing the scene and said he immediately attended to the injured. He flatly denied drinking alcohol and promised to take full responsibility for the victim's child and all expenses to ease the family's burden.
However, witness Ms. A stated clearly that the police officer's truck deliberately swerved into the motorcycle; there was no cutting-off as claimed. The witness also smelled alcohol on the officer and observed clear signs of intoxication. She reported that both injured children are in critical condition in the ICU and has volunteered to give a statement to authorities to seek justice for the family's unjust loss.
