Drunk Motorcyclist Crashes Into Bikers Group, One Dead
A drunk motorcyclist crashed into a touring group of big bikers on a Phrae Province road on July 30, killing one person and injuring five others, three seriously, as the group traveled to make merit offerings during Buddhist Lent.
A tragic accident during the Buddhist Lent season claimed one life and injured five others, three seriously, when a drunk motorcyclist swerved across lanes and crashed into a touring group of big bikers on the Ban Suan Khuean–Mae Kham road in Mueang District, Phrae Province at 11:30 a.m. on July 30, 2025. Deputy Sub-Lieutenant Kriangchak Channantan of Phrathat Cho Hae Police Station received the report and coordinated rescue efforts with local emergency personnel and Phrae Hospital staff. At the scene, one man identified as Ekchai, 52, was found dead with a severe head injury lying in the middle of the road. Five others were injured, three in serious condition and rushed to Phrae Hospital.
Investigators determined that the injured were tourists from Kamphaeng Phet Province riding in a group of five big bikes with 11 people total, traveling to make merit offerings at Wat Na Kuha temple during the Lent merit-making period. When they reached the accident location, the victim's motorcycle swerved erratically before suddenly crossing lanes and striking the bike group with force. Several riders could not avoid the collision, resulting in a chain-reaction crash. One of the big bike riders, 29-year-old Kiatsakdi, who was leading the group, said he managed to swerve and avoid the collision, but bikes in positions two, three, and four were hit hard, causing multiple injuries.
Police initially suspect the victim may have been intoxicated and driving at high speed, losing control of his motorcycle. However, a full investigation including witness statements and evidence collection is underway to determine the exact cause and pursue legal action. This incident serves as a sobering reminder during the Lent season for all road users to abstain from alcohol before driving, stay alert, and strictly follow traffic rules to prevent loss of life and property.
