Flash Flood Sweeps Temple Vehicle, Seven Rescued, One Monk Missing
A flash flood swept a pickup truck carrying eight monks off a road in Pak Tho, Ratchaburi, on October 11. Seven monks, a nun and the driver were rescued after clinging to trees and rooftops, while one monk remains missing. Rescue teams continue searching the fast‑moving stream for the missing monk.
The monks and nun were on their way to attend a Pavarana ceremony at Wat Khao Pun, about four kilometers from the accident site, when heavy overnight rains caused flash flooding that swept across the road and bridge. The driver attempted to cross the rushing water but the pickup was overturned and carried into the stream. Those aboard clung to trees and the roofs of flooded houses; rescue teams pulled five monks, one nun, and the driver to safety, while a sixth monk remained trapped in the current, gripping a tree. Search efforts continue as the fast‑moving, debris‑laden water from the mountains makes rescue operations difficult.
