Government Spokesman Rebukes Opposition Over No‑Confidence Insults
Government spokesman Ekaphol Piaphet criticized the Democrat Party for using the insulting phrase 'stupid, terrible, evil' in their no-confidence debate theme, saying it was an attempt to steal the spotlight. He urged civil discourse based on reason, highlighted government achievements such as anti-scam measures, GDP growth, and progress toward OECD membership, and challenged the public to judge whether they want such politics.
Government spokesperson Ekaphol Piaphet criticized the Democrat Party's deputy leader, Karndee Liwiraphorn, for framing the no-confidence debate around the words 'stupid, terrible, evil,' saying it was an attempt to steal the spotlight and generate publicity. Speaking at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre on October 16, 2026, Ekaphol said that while Thailand is hosting a major global conference, the opposition's rhetoric appears to be more about political infighting than substantive critique. He noted that the People's Party has agreed to join the Democrats in the no-confidence motion, which he described as entertaining but lacking sufficient traction for the Democrats, suggesting their remarks are aimed at drawing attention. Ekaphol argued that civil discourse in parliament should rely on reason and facts, not insults, emphasizing that intelligence cannot be measured by IQ alone but also involves EQ, MQ and other abilities. He said labeling others as 'stupid,' 'lousy,' or 'evil' is inappropriate and urged self-reflection, pointing out that when one finger points at another, four fingers point back at oneself. He viewed the exchange as political theater or 'democratic entertainment,' accusing the opposition of trying to portray themselves as virtuous while resorting to foul language, and challenged the public to judge whether they want such politics. Regarding the opposition's claim that the government is 'lousy,' Ekaphol said they must specify what exactly they find lacking, noting that the Democrat Party's own deputy leader, Korn Chatikavanij, has praised the government's handling of the global financial regulators meeting. He highlighted government achievements such as cracking down on scammers and nominees, rising GDP, and progress toward OECD membership, which he said would strengthen Thailand's position in international negotiations. Ekaphol stressed that the government focuses on national benefits rather than chasing daily political headlines.
