Heartbreaking: Frightened Cow Escapes Slaughterhouse in Tears, Compassionate Woman Saves Its Life
A frightened cow escaped a Chiang Mai slaughterhouse and took refuge in a massage shop; a compassionate woman negotiated to purchase the animal for 14,000 baht, saving its life from slaughter.
At 2:30 PM on May 22, 2026, Chiang Mai Provincial Police's radio command center received a report of a female cow that had escaped from a slaughterhouse and was running through downtown Chiang Mai near Pratu Chiang Mai Gate, taking shelter in a traditional massage shop. Authorities were concerned the frightened animal might be hit by traffic or cause property damage to residents.
The cow was visibly distressed and crying continuously. Chiang Mai City Police assisted by locating and contacting the owner. After confirming the cow had escaped from a nearby slaughterhouse, they coordinated with the owner, who arrived with a truck and tranquilizer gun to recapture and return the animal.
Before this could happen, a compassionate young woman who witnessed the incident contacted the owner to negotiate for the cow's life. The owner set the price at 14,000 baht, and the woman agreed to pay it, successfully saving the cow from slaughter.
