Jealous Man Shoots Rival at Resort Over Facebook Flirtation with His Girlfriend
A man shot his girlfriend's Facebook admirer in the ear at a Sisaket resort after discovering flirtatious messages; police arrested the 25-year-old shooter within hours and recovered a homemade revolver.
At 5:00 a.m. on May 7, 2025, Kantharalak Police Station received a report of a shooting at a forest resort in room 13, Moo 14, Nong Ya Lad Subdistrict, Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province. Commander Pol. Col. Srutt Chankasae ordered officers to investigate immediately. Upon arrival, police found a Wave motorcycle registered in Sisaket parked outside the room with blood scattered throughout. The injured man, Somboorn, 31 years old, had been shot in the right ear and was taken to Kantharalak Hospital under close medical care.
During interrogation, Somboorn explained he came to the resort to prepare for a probation check-in when a young man on a motorcycle arrived asking if he had arranged to meet the suspect's wife. The visitor then asked to see Somboorn's phone. An argument erupted over the phone's messages, which the visitor objected to. The suspect became angry, smashed Somboorn's phone, drew a gun, and fired once, striking Somboorn's ear before fleeing.
Police reviewed CCTV footage and witness statements to track the suspect. By 3:30 p.m., they arrested Nathapong, 25, at a house in Krachangsubdistrict, also in Kantharalak District. Officers seized a homemade .38 revolver with a shell casing inside and an unregistered gray Honda Wave motorcycle.
Nathapong confessed to the shooting, claiming jealousy. He stated that Somboorn had been messaging his girlfriend on Facebook in a flirtation attempting to invite her to spend time together. Nathapong said he wasn't aware his girlfriend already had a boyfriend when the messages started. When his girlfriend showed him the Facebook conversation, he became extremely upset, viewing it as an inappropriate advance and seduction attempt, which prompted the attack.
