King Rama X Leads Merit-Making Ceremony for King Bhumibol
King Rama X and Queen consort participated in a merit-making ceremony honoring King Bhumibol at the Grand Palace’s Amarin Throne Hall on October 13, 2026. The king lit incense, paid respects to royal ashes, and gave a sermon, while eighty-nine monks chanted and the royal couple observed Buddhist rites. The event marked the annual Wan Wimanmaharaj observance.
At the ceremony, King Rama X lit incense and candles before a gold-tiered offering stand holding the Victory Buddha image, which represents King Rama IX. He paid respects to the royal ashes of King Bhumibol and King Ananda Mahidol, as well as to the cremated remains of Queen Mother Sirikit, the Princess Mother, and Princess Galyani Vadhana. Queen consort likewise lit candles and offered prayers. Eighty-nine monks chanted Buddhist texts, after which the king presented offerings and delivered a sermon on the ‘Maharaj Katha’. He then draped monastic robes in four rounds, each consisting of eighteen robes, while the monks received the holy water and gave blessings. The ceremony concluded with the traditional prayers and the royal couple observing the precepts.
