Lawyer Claims MP Hid Luxury Watch, Urges Anti-Corruption Probe
Lawyer Nornaret Na Nong Toom accused Bhumjaithai MP Suchada Zang Thaen Sap of failing to declare a luxury watch worth over three million baht in her assets submitted to the National Anti-Corruption Commission. He argued that claiming the watch was borrowed from a friend does not exempt her from disclosure requirements, citing a Supreme Court ruling that such claims still create a legal obligation to report assets and liabilities. Nornaret said he will file a formal complaint with the NACC on October 5 to seek clarity and transparency.
Lawyer Nornaret Na Nong Toom posted a warning to Bhumjaithai MP Suchada Zang Thaen Sap after discovering a luxury watch valued at over three million baht was missing from her asset declaration submitted to the National Anti-Corruption Commission. He argued that whether she claims the watch is held on behalf of another or borrowed from a friend, both situations generate a legal obligation to return the item, creating a debt that must be declared. Referring to a Supreme Court criminal division ruling for politicians, he noted that pretending to hold property for someone else or borrowing it still counts as a liability that must appear in asset and debt statements. Nornaret said he will attach the court ruling to his complaint to the NACC, scheduled for October 5, to push for a clear and transparent investigation.
