Lightning Strike Kills Footballer at Sungai Kolok Match

An unexpected tragedy unfolded at a football pitch after lightning struck players during a Go-Lok FA Cup match at Santiphap Stadium (Babu Stadium) in Sungai Kolok municipality, Narathiwat province. According to reports from Yala Public Relations, eight people were injured and one footballer died: Sofwan Aawa, 24 years old. The victim was a former Pattani FC player who had recently signed with Yala FC just days before the accident.
The eight injured players receiving treatment at Sungai Kolok Hospital are: Somchai Long Mihna, 25; Sakeerin Teekasm, 36; Sakariyya Kaowe, 38; Hamirool Jeaasae, 32; Sonanth Sataworn, 37; Mayusran Kasot, 31; Fatel Baka, 19; and Suhaimi Rohman, 28.
One Malaysian national, 22 years old, was also injured and returned to Malaysia for continued medical treatment.
