Jayden Adams, a midfielder for South Africa's national football team, has died at just 25 years old, only weeks after playing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Though the official cause has not been released, reports indicate he died in a motor vehicle accident.

Adams appeared in South Africa's first two group matches—a 0-2 loss to Mexico and a 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic—before the team was eliminated after losing 0-1 to Canada on June 29. With 9 caps for the national team, Adams had been actively sharing photos with his girlfriend on social media shortly before his death upon returning home.

The South African Professional Football Association issued a statement expressing deep sorrow: "We are profoundly devastated by the untimely passing of Jayden Adams, midfielder for Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana. Jayden represented South Africa with pride, courage, and excellence at the recent 2026 FIFA World Cup, carrying the hopes of our nation. His loss is immeasurable to his family, teammates, club, football, and the country as a whole. We extend our deepest condolences to the Adams family, Mamelodi Sundowns, Stellenbosch FC, and all whose lives he touched. South African football has lost a talented player, a dedicated servant of the game, and a young man with so much good still to give. May his soul rest in eternal peace."

Democrats Tour Flood Reservoir, Push For Pump Funding

Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva toured a flood-prevention reservoir in Hatyai and urged the government to approve funding for water pumps and infrastructure upgrades to address the province's persistent flooding problems.

Democrats Tour Flood Reservoir, Push For Pump Funding

Abhisit Vejjajiva, Democrat Party leader and list MP, dismissed claims by fellow MP Paradorn Prissananantakul, cautioning against conflating separate budget matters. He led Democrat lawmakers to inspect the Kaeng-Ling-Klonglian water retention basin—designed to slow runoff from upper areas and prevent rapid flooding of Hatyai's economic zone—at 6 PM on July 11. Khohong Mayor Thevisak Theeratana presented the municipality's concerns and requested assistance, including procurement of ten water pumps.

Abhisit stated that Hatyai's flooding problem has been wrongly portrayed as a political dispute when both parties are simply performing their duties. He noted that initial disaster response focused on economic remedies, but timing remained problematic due to uncertainty about rainfall patterns.

Abhisit highlighted that following the election, both Democrats and opposition raised concerns about the province's preparedness. Parliamentary discussions began in May, with MPs Joury Noomkaew and Saksit Khaothong citing examples like Klong Ror 1. The Prime Minister visited on July 10, and the government had planned a cabinet meeting in early June but cancelled it, citing incomplete project vetting.

As budgetary discussions extended into July, Joury spoke clearly about flood concerns, referencing the budget crisis—particularly debates about candle-lighting expenses—which prompted an emotional government response. This prompted the Prime Minister to visit and approve approximately 400 million baht, pending cabinet confirmation. An emergency fund of 99.5 million baht from private-sector assistance was also approved for urgent priorities.

Abhisit told Pradorn not to conflate separate issues, noting the project is centrally funded but involves distinct components requiring budget approval and upgrades. He emphasized the opposition performed its duty fully and appreciated the government's eventual response to two to three months of advocacy, particularly regarding Klong Ror 1. He urged the government to expedite cabinet approval, as remaining amounts exceed the Prime Minister's sole authority to approve.

Heavy Rain Swamps Hat Yai in Under 20 Minutes

Hat Yai's Khlong Hua intersection flooded in under 20 minutes on July 9 after heavy rain, with residents blaming an electrical pole blocking the drainage canal and an incomplete infrastructure project for the recurring disaster.

Heavy Rain Swamps Hat Yai in Under 20 Minutes, Power Pole Blocks Drainage Canal, Residents Frustrated Over 9,000 Baht Relief. July 11—A Facebook video by user Wit Tong Thai captured sudden flooding at Khlong Hua intersection in Ban Pru municipality, Hat Yai district, Songkhla province, following heavy rain on the afternoon of July 9. Water surged rapidly into homes and shops.

Investigations revealed an incomplete drainage system under construction. The canal along the Asia Route toward Phatthalung was clogged with garbage and water hyacinth. Downstream before the railway overpass, an electrical pole stood directly in the drainage canal, which residents believe is a major obstruction preventing adequate water flow.

Vatcharasit Phinyodthananth, owner of Tong Thai Tour Company, revealed the flooding happened extremely fast. Rain fell for less than 20 minutes before water rushed into homes, leaving no time to save belongings. This recurring problem has plagued residents for nearly 20 years. Heavy rain and lack of canal dredging, combined with grass, branches, and garbage blocking pipe openings, cause the flooding.

When residents called Ban Pru municipality, they were told to manage garbage collection themselves. Despite multiple reports to authorities, nothing changed. Last year saw chest-high flooding. This year, after water damage rotted his home, he recently renovated. Now items he prepared for merit-making at nine temples for 500-600 people on July 19 were damaged by flooding. He questioned whether the 9,000 baht relief compensation justifies repeated damage.

Shop owners in the area unanimously blame the incomplete drainage pipe project for worsening floods. Heavy rain now causes flooding in less than 30 minutes. Before the project, water would recede quickly after rain stopped. Now drainage is much slower, affecting business.

Authorities have issued arrest warrants for two brothers, 33-year-old Wiroj and 27-year-old Thani, in connection with a fatal shooting at a pre-ordination ceremony in Moo 7, Phraya Ban Lue, Lad Bua Luang District, Ayutthaya Province. The incident claimed the life of 36-year-old Piyadom and injured 27-year-old DJ Suphannee with a stray bullet.

According to the victim's wife, a friend named Wa had invited her husband to the ordination ceremony and assured him that past conflicts with the suspects had been resolved. Despite knowing the other party would attend, the victim and his wife decided to go. While mingling with guests, gunshots erupted. The wife heard the shots and found her husband lying motionless in a pool of blood. Witnesses report the suspects first struck the victim with a bottle before shooting him at close range.

The victim's sister revealed that a dispute had occurred during Songkran, but both sides had apologized and reached an understanding. The family did not expect the violence to escalate. The victim was the family's breadwinner, supporting his mother, wife, and elementary school-age daughter. He had just acquired a new vehicle two days prior, intending to use it for work to secure his family's future.

The Ayutthaya Provincial Court approved arrest warrants charging both men with murder, attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, unlawful carrying of firearms in public, and reckless discharge of a firearm. A ceremony to receive the victim's remains is being held at Wat Yai temple in Bang Pa-in District.

Chelsea is prepared to sell Alejandro Garnacho after his transfer from Manchester United less than a year ago. Reports indicate the 22-year-old has yet to report for preseason training under new manager Xabi Alonso despite no reported injuries.

Players excluded from the 2026 World Cup squad have begun reporting to training camp and undergoing fitness tests for preseason preparation under Alonso's direction. Most have arrived, but the 22-year-old striker remains absent with no injury explanation offered.

Sources indicate Chelsea has run out of patience and believes Garnacho is not part of Alonso's team plans, so they are open to offers for the forward they signed from Manchester United for £40 million last summer. The board is inclined to sell outright rather than loan him out. Roma from Italian Serie A is reportedly interested in Garnacho, though negotiations have not yet formally begun.

Deputy Interior Minister Inspects Phuket Cannabis Shop Over Violations
4h ago Khaosod

Deputy Interior Minister Palpir Suwannachuay, accompanied by Phuket Governor Chotinorin Goedsub and relevant agencies, conducted an inspection of cannabis retailers and unlicensed businesses in Chalong Subdistrict, Thalang District, Phuket on July 11. The inspection was triggered by the previous day's arrest of two women attempting to transport approximately 30 kilograms of cannabis from Phuket, which led investigators to this establishment.

During the search, officials found that the shop's business license had been suspended for non-compliance with regulations, yet it continued operating and selling cannabis products. Authorities discovered pre-rolled joints and various cannabis-infused snacks, constituting clear violations of food laws and business regulations. The shop's license is expected to be revoked.

Inspectors also requested customer records to verify that buyers had valid medical certificates, but found none. This suggests the shop failed to maintain proper documentation.

Deputy Minister Palpir clarified that legally licensed shops selling cannabis only to customers with valid medical certificates face no issues and the government fully supports medical cannabis use in line with the Public Health Ministry's intent. However, this operation did not meet those standards and legal proceedings will continue.

5h ago Khaosod

MEDEZE, the Pharmaceutical Organization (Por Ror Sor), and Cretan Associates Limited have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish GPO Medeze Empower Co., Ltd. with initial registered capital of 105 million baht. The company will develop manufacturing facilities for cell culture media and advanced medical products (ATMPs) meeting GMP standards, aiming to reduce reliance on imported raw materials, support biopharmaceutical research and production, and position Thailand as Asia's biopharma and medical innovation hub.

The new company plans to become a Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) for biopharmaceutical products, supporting research development from universities, hospitals, researchers, and biotech companies both domestically and internationally. The initiative targets reducing cell therapy production and treatment costs by 30-50 percent, making quality, internationally-standard medical innovations more accessible to the public.

Dr. Somruk Chungsamnan, Deputy Minister of Public Health, expressed strong support for the partnership, calling it a significant step in public-private collaboration to advance Thailand's advanced medical industry. He emphasized that while Thailand is internationally recognized as a medical hub, the next phase is to transition from providing quality medical services to developing indigenous medical knowledge, technology, and innovation. ATMPs—encompassing cell therapy, gene therapy, and biotechnology—represent crucial future technology that is transforming global disease treatment approaches.

ATMPs offer Thailand opportunities to strengthen health security, reduce dependence on foreign technology, and enhance competitive capacity. Investment in advanced medical technology today is investment in the future, establishing foundations for Thailand to become a genuine Medical Innovation Hub. Officials praised contributions from the Pharmaceutical Organization, MEDEZE Group Public Company Limited, and Cretan Associates in leveraging public and private sector collaboration to create benefits for citizens and build a new future for the country.

Thai entertainment partners Ling Ling Kong and Om Kornnapas have reflected on their remarkable three-year journey from their early days with just a handful of fans to now hosting large-scale events at Bangkok's Impact Arena with a global fanbase. The pair, who started as partners, have grown together with consistent love and support from fans both in Thailand and abroad, creating countless memories filled with laughter, tears, and encouragement.

In a recent interview, the two discussed their partnership evolution and how fan support has become a driving force for their continued self-improvement. When asked about their journey, Om humorously responded by singing about their learning experience together. "We've come a long way," Om reflected, "from having nothing at the start to where we are today. We're grateful to everyone who made this happen, and we didn't expect life would have this path for us. We'll keep developing ourselves."

Ling Ling noted their most significant change: "Now we have more people who love us." Om emphasized that their biggest surprise was the size of their fanbase, which has grown exponentially. "I never expected our fans to be this many or love us this much," she said, humorously claiming their numbers had grown "800 million times" since moving to the Impact Arena scale.

Beyond Thailand, their international fanbase has also expanded significantly. Ling Ling shared that she's collaborated with productions from France, Korea, and China, each bringing different working styles that have broadened her perspective, while fans continue their unwavering support.

The pair recounted touching moments that highlighted their fan dedication. One viral clip showed Om stopping a performance when she noticed fans in wheelchairs couldn't see from their seats, insisting they be brought to better positions. Another memorable moment involved an elderly fan who came to their event in a wheelchair despite the logistical challenges.

Ling Ling expressed deep gratitude for fans who travel to see them, understanding that each journey requires saving money for tickets, registration, and waiting in lines. "Every moment we spend with fans is worthwhile, especially for the children and elderly," she said. Om added that they deeply appreciate fans who have saved money for months just to attend their events, emphasizing how they never take that dedication for granted.
