Man on Motorcycle with Sidecar Brakes Suddenly to Let Turtle Cross Road; Following Car Crashes, Injuring Three
A motorcyclist braked suddenly to let a turtle cross the road in Samut Prakan, causing a following sedan to crash and injure three people including a child on May 26.
At 8:30 a.m. on May 26, 2569, police responded to a vehicle collision on Klong 17 Road, Ban Nam Phriao District, Samut Prakan Province. At the scene, three injured persons were found: Somchai, 60, the motorcycle sidecar driver; his 7-year-old granddaughter A, who sustained abrasions; and Nathi, 26, a Honda Wave motorcycle operator with minor injuries. All were transported to Ban Nam Phriao Hospital.
The other vehicle involved was a black Honda City sedan registered in Phetchaburi, driven by 43-year-old Sotipatthana. The sedan's front end was severely damaged with a cracked left windshield and debris scattered across the road.
According to investigation, Sotipatthana stated that the motorcycle ahead suddenly braked, and when the motorcycle also braked, he attempted to stop but could not in time, resulting in the collision and subsequent slide into the sidecar.
When questioned, Somchai explained he had suddenly braked and stopped to allow a turtle crossing the road to pass safely, unaware of the vehicle following behind, which led to the accident.
Police are conducting further investigation with Sotipatthana at the Chimplee Police Station and will take additional statements from all injured parties before determining appropriate legal charges.
