Municipality Official Accused Of Embezzling Elderly Care Funds
A municipal official in Kalasin province allegedly embezzled 239,200 baht from an elderly care fund, leaving 31 caregivers unpaid for four months and prompting a police complaint.
Thirty-one caregivers for the elderly and bedridden disabled in Nong Kung subdistrict, Mueang district, Kalasin province lodged a formal complaint, claiming they have not received their monthly care allowance for four months. The residents allege that a municipal official responsible for managing the elderly and disabled development and rehabilitation fund account secretly withdrew 239,200 baht, with a former municipal administrator co-signing the withdrawal without clear justification. As a result, all 31 caregivers went unpaid from January to April, losing 107,520 baht in combined compensation. Pairat Yaibang, deputy municipal clerk of Nong Kung subdistrict, acknowledged learning of the situation on the day of the complaint and stated the municipality would take urgent action. He noted that the account was reduced to just 1,700 baht and promised to recover all funds and conduct an investigation. Before the formal complaint, the officials involved had offered to return 107,520 baht and proposed a follow-up meeting to recover the remaining funds. However, the caregivers rejected the offer, demanding full restitution and pressing charges against those responsible. They subsequently filed a report with Mueang Kalasin police station.
