Nevin Chidchob, chairman of Buriram United, has sent a message to eternal rival Muangthong United following their relegation to Thai League 2 next season.
On May 10, the Thai League held its final match of the season at Thalang Stadium, featuring a relegation battle between two desperate teams. Sukhothai FC hosted Muangthong United, with both teams fighting for survival in the top division.
Sukhothai FC played significantly better, scoring three goals in quick succession to defeat Muangthong 3-0. This victory brought Sukhothai's total to 28 points, moving them up to 13th place in the standings, while Muangthong dropped to 14th and out of the Thai League for next season. This ends their 17-year consecutive run in the top flight since their promotion in 2009, when they won the Thai League championship four times.
Most recently, "Big Nai" Nevin Chidchob, Buriram United's chairman, commented on Muangthong United, their longtime rival, saying: "I wish them well on their travels throughout Thailand and happiness. This is the cycle of football—you can lose but never give up. I believe that if they don't lose heart, if they stay determined, they'll be back next year. Playing in T2 will give Muangthong many valuable experiences."
