On August 8, 2026, a violent incident at Thepsirin School in Nonthaburi claimed 8 lives and injured 23 people. All families of the deceased have completed arrangements to retrieve their relatives' bodies for religious funeral rites according to their traditions. The Nonthaburi Provincial Justice Office has established victim compensation criteria under criminal law, with deceased victims' families eligible to claim up to 300,000 baht in compensation and related expenses from the defendant. The 23 injured victims qualify for medical treatment costs (up to 80,000 baht), physical and mental rehabilitation (up to 50,000 baht), and other damages (up to 100,000 baht total), with actual medical bills reimbursed according to receipts. Additional compensation is available for permanent disability or organ loss up to 300,000 baht. A new ministerial regulation effective March 2 establishes a five-tier mental health support system ranging from 10,000 baht for minor cases requiring under 7 days of treatment to 80,000–100,000 baht for severe cases requiring over 45 days of treatment with lasting effects. The student who initiated the incident is ineligible for victim compensation under the law, as perpetrators cannot claim as victims. Beyond justice office compensation, the government has approved additional emergency relief funds: 1 million baht for deaths, 700,000 baht for permanent disability, 200,000 baht for severe injuries, and 100,000 baht for minor injuries, separate from criminal law compensation.
