7 Aug Khaosod

On August 7, 2025, at Sisaket Provincial Hall, Governor Anurat Thammanprajamjit, Sisaket Provincial Police Commander Supachai Sakrinpanichkul, and officials from military, civilian administration, prison services, and related agencies announced the seizure of 2,646,000 methamphetamine pills—the largest drug bust in Sisaket's history. A civic informant tipped off authorities to 16 fertilizer sacks loaded on two push carts and hidden in a rice field in Noi Khun District. Governor Anurat emphasized that solving the drug problem requires cooperation from all sectors of society and urged citizens to report tips to the Office of the Narcotics Control Board hotline 1386 available 24 hours daily, the national police emergency line 191, or local police stations.

The province will continue Operation 90 Days to dismantle drug trafficking networks, seize assets from offenders, provide treatment to users, and build drug-free communities for sustainable quality of life and public safety. Police Commander Supachai revealed that authorities are gathering evidence to pursue accomplices still at large. The court has issued arrest warrants for two brothers, Tawan, 33, and An, 27, members of the "Cockfighting Den" drug network, with suspicion that more network members remain at large.

Supachai also warned about a new drug called "Happy Water" circulating in Sisaket, disguised as "collagen" or skin care products but containing methamphetamine powder or MDMA. The drugs can be mixed into drinking water and used immediately, producing stimulant effects similar to methamphetamine and MDMA. Large doses can cause seizures. This new counterfeit drug is easy to obtain and is spreading particularly in youth tourism areas and entertainment venues. Authorities urge the public and parents to watch for suspicious collagen or skin care products and report them to drug control hotlines 1386 or 191 for immediate investigation and legal action.

Many devotees arrived at Wat Putthanimit in Nong Seenuan, Sahasaksant District, to pay respects to the accomplished practitioner and commemorate his contributions to establishing the temple as a significant Buddhist sanctuary in Kalasin Province.

At 2:30 p.m., Phra Thammawitchiniwid, advisor to the Sangha Regional Council 9 and abbot of Wat Prachaniyom, presided over the funeral procession of Luang Por Nrong Chayamongkol, with monks and followers in attendance to honor the late abbot through the ceremonial movement of his remains and the final bathing rite.

Luang Por Nrong Chayamongkol was a dedicated practitioner of the Dhammayuttika sect with no formal ecclesiastical rank, known for his strict observance of discipline and mastery of vipassana meditation. He earned acclaim for building Wat Putthanimit as a sanctuary of religious and architectural beauty, including the preservation of the 2,000-year-old Phra Phuthai Sai Asan (reclining Buddha) statue, an important historical monument of Kalasin Province. He also oversaw the construction of a beautiful wooden ordination hall, a grand dharma hall stupa, and a courtyard depicting the Buddha's four postures, all of which have attracted numerous Buddhist devotees to the temple. Luang Por Nrong had resided and presided over Wat Putthanimit since 2528 B.E. (1985), when he transferred to the Dhammayuttika order under the guidance of Phra Thammawitchiniwid.

Expert Examines School Shooting, Urges Prevention Focus

A Mahidol University expert analyzed the Thepsirin School shooting in Nonthaburi, identifying accumulated grievances and deliberate planning as key factors and stressing the importance of early intervention before violence escalates.

Expert Examines School Shooting, Urges Prevention Focus
7 Aug Khaosod

On August 7, 2026, Dr. Trin Phothiraksa, a lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences at Mahidol University's Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, offered expert analysis of the school shooting at Thepsirin School in Nonthaburi that left multiple people dead and injured. Dr. Trin explained that before such incidents occur, children typically accumulate feelings of shame, hurt, resentment, and pain—or a sense of being treated unjustly—until their capacity for anger reaches a breaking point. Understanding what experiences contribute to this buildup is essential.

Regarding targeted violent incidents of this nature, many cases do not result from momentary impulse or poor emotional control, but rather from prolonged accumulation of grievances followed by deliberate planning and preparation, such as acquiring weapons. Therefore, identifying ways to interrupt this process is critically important. Dr. Trin also stressed the need to examine the online environment, noting that while video games are not the primary cause, they can serve as a contributing or isolating factor that disconnects the perpetrator from reality. Games thus play a role in behavior but are not the whole picture.

The Inner Circle 25 event at Lumpinee Stadium (Rama Intra) on August 7 showcased a bantamweight title bout between Nabil Anane, a former ONE Muay Thai world champion, and Tiger Kim Pong Suphon PK from Chanthaburi, with the winner advancing to challenge for the title. In the opening round, both fighters exercised caution, with Nabil relying on his longer reach and kicks while Tiger Kim waited to counter with straight punches. The second round saw intense exchanges, and Tiger Kim landed a powerful straight right to the body that sent Nabil to the canvas for a count. Despite Nabil's continued aggression, Tiger Kim maintained control but could not finish the fight. In the final round, Nabil mounted an immediate assault with heavy strikes, while Tiger Kim stood his ground, trading fierce combinations and elbows. The referee ultimately raised Tiger Kim's hand for a non-unanimous points victory, and he was awarded a 1.7 million baht bonus.

Before the main event, several notable fights took place. Marat Grigoryan, a hard-hitting Armenian boxer, faced Mamuka Usubiyan, a dangerous Russian fighter, in a ONE Samurai Tournament kickboxing featherweight semifinal. Grigoryan emerged confidently, unleashing relentless attacks and footwork to overcome Usubiyan and advance to the next round.

The co-main event was a rematch between Abdullah Dayakayev, a sharp Russian boxer, and Superlek Superlek, the ONE Kickboxing flyweight world champion from Buriram, fought under Muay Thai bantamweight rules to settle their rivalry. Their previous encounter occurred at The Inner Circle 14 on May 15, 2025, when Abdullah missed weight but Superlek agreed to fight; Superlek lost by non-unanimous decision. Two friends of different ages were drinking together when the older man insulted the younger man's parents repeatedly. Enraged and heavily intoxicated, the younger man gagged the older man with cloth and beat him with a crutch until he died, then attempted to flee across the border but was arrested due to extreme intoxication.

At 2 p.m. on August 7, 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Anuson Dangkong, superintendent of Phob Phra Police Station in Tak Province, received a report of an assault resulting in death on a cassava plantation near the entrance of Serirat Village 14, Moo 6, Chong Kaeb Subdistrict, Phob Phra District, Tak Province. He and relevant officers rushed to investigate.

At the scene, officers found the body of Mr. Tu Aung, a 70-year-old stateless Myanmar national who was disabled with paralysis of both arms and legs. His face and head bore severe blunt force injuries. A black cloth was tightly bound around his mouth. About 100 meters away, officers found drag marks leading from the body and a blood-stained blanket caught on the deceased's crutch, which were collected as evidence.

Investigation revealed the suspect was Mr. Athone, a 47-year-old Myanmar national, who was apprehended near the Thai-Myanmar border in a state of severe intoxication and brought to Phob Phra Police Station.

According to the investigation, before the incident, Mr. Athone and Mr. Tu Aung, who were close friends, had been drinking at a shelter near a cassava plantation. As intoxication increased, Mr. Tu Aung repeatedly insulted Mr. Athone's parents. In a drunken rage, Mr. Athone gagged the victim with cloth and repeatedly beat him with the victim's own crutch until he died, then dragged the body to hide it in the cassava field.

After committing the act, Mr. Athone attempted to flee across the border, but his extreme intoxication prevented him from running far. He was subsequently arrested by police. Mr. Athone initially confessed to the charges. Police transferred him to Phob Phra Police Station investigators for legal proceedings.
