Novo Nordisk Introduces High-Dose Semaglutide for Thai Type 2 Diabetes
Novo Nordisk has launched a high-dose semaglutide treatment in Thailand for type 2 diabetes, aiming to address cardiovascular, kidney and metabolic risks beyond glucose control. The move reflects rising diabetes prevalence, now at 10.6 percent, and seeks to increase awareness of diabetes as a chronic, progressive disease linked to serious health complications.
Novo Nordisk announced the availability of high-dose semaglutide in Thailand for patients with type 2 diabetes. The company said the new option provides holistic care that targets not only glucose levels but also cardiovascular, kidney and metabolic risks associated with CKM syndrome. According to Novo Nordisk, the prevalence of type 2 diabetes in Thailand rose to 10.6 percent in 2025, up from 9.5 percent in the 2020 survey. The firm highlighted that many patients remain unaware of the strong links between diabetes and serious health threats such as heart disease, stroke, chronic kidney disease (which affects up to 40 percent of diabetic patients and is the leading cause of end-stage kidney failure in Thailand), and obesity. Novo Nordisk emphasized that managing type 2 diabetes now requires a comprehensive approach that protects the heart and kidneys while supporting healthy weight. The company’s research and development have produced therapies that deliver weight loss and reduce comorbidity risks beyond glucose control. Jihan Siridar Kizilsig, General Manager of Novo Nordisk Thailand, stated that Novo Nordisk has been a leader in diabetes care for over a century and recognizes type 2 diabetes as one of the most urgent public-health challenges today, closely linked to CKM syndrome in Thailand.
