Olympic Boxer Somrak Awaits Appeal Verdict in Abuse Case
Olympic boxing gold medalist Somrak Kamsing is awaiting the appeal court's verdict on charges of sexually abusing a 17‑year‑old girl. The lower court had sentenced him to four years and eight months, later reduced to about two years and one month, and he is currently out on bail. He appeared at the Khon Kaen appeal court with supporters but did not speak to the press.
The lower court originally sentenced Somrak Kamsing to four years and eight months imprisonment for indecent assault and sexual abuse of a 17‑year‑old girl he met at an entertainment venue on 10 December 2023. Because he cooperated, the sentence was reduced by one third to two years, thirteen months and ten days, and he was ordered to pay 50,000 baht to the victim’s relatives and 120,000 baht plus 5 % annual interest to the victim. After hearing the verdict, he requested temporary release pending appeal, which the Khon Kaen Provincial Court granted with a 300,000‑baht bail. On the morning of 20 October 2026, Somrak arrived at the Region 4 Appeal Court in Khon Kaen accompanied by about ten friends who gave him encouragement before he entered the courtroom to hear the appeal judgment, without speaking to the media. He later said he remains confident of his innocence, noting that he has not communicated with the other party since the incident and believes Thai society can judge the matter fairly.
