Phuket MP Denies Acting as Foreign Land Nominee
A Phuket MP from Pheu Thai denies accusations of acting as a foreign land nominee and vows to cooperate fully with the Department of Special Investigation to clear his name.
On August 20, Somchai Techathawerajchai, a Phuket member of parliament from the Pheu Thai Party, posted on Facebook stating that following media accusations of being a nominee for foreign nationals, he will meet with the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to clear his name in good faith and provide useful information. He expressed willingness to cooperate fully with the investigation and pledged to attend every summons.
"I firmly affirm that I have not committed any of the acts alleged," Somchai said. "I am merely a businessman running various enterprises, one of which involves real estate investment and leasing. I categorically state that not even a fraction of Thai land under my business operations has fallen into foreign hands or been seized by any foreigner, and I will never permit such an outcome." He added that while he will vigorously defend his legitimate rights and freedoms through lawful means against political overreach of any colour, he could not claim to represent the people against shadowy powers if he could not even protect his own rights.
