Thai Badminton Star May Withdraws From World Championship
Thai badminton champion May Ratchanok Intanon withdrew from the World Championship in India after suffering a lower back injury during her second-round match, ending her bid for a medal.
May Ratchanok Intanon, Thailand's leading women's singles badminton player, posted a message after being forced to withdraw from the World Badminton Championship in India due to injury. The 31-year-old tearfully withdrew during her second-round match against American Ishika Jaiswals after suffering an injury that made it impossible to continue playing in the second game. Following her withdrawal, May posted on social media explaining: "I suffered a sudden injury to my lower left back during the first game and tried to push through, but feared it would worsen. After consulting with my coach, we decided rest was the best option. What disappoints me most is that I felt completely prepared to win a medal. It may sound odd, but I have never thought of betraying myself. Everything ended in a split second, but this is what athletes must face. Beyond competitors on court, we must also battle injuries beyond our control. This has been an ongoing challenge for me, but I will not give up. Thank you for all your messages and concern."
