Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is leading Thailand's largest business delegation to China in history to expand investment, coinciding with the opening of the Board of Investment's (BOI) fourth overseas office in Chengdu on July 17, 2025. BOI Secretary-General Narutt Therdsteerasukdi announced that the Prime Minister will preside over the office opening, which will serve as a key hub for promoting investment in western China—a region increasingly important to China's economy and home to numerous high-potential companies in advanced technology and clean energy.

The delegation includes a "Prime Minister-Thai Private Sector Luncheon" bringing together over 153 business leaders from 48 companies, with 110 executives dining directly with the Prime Minister. This represents one of the largest Thai business delegations ever sent to China. Senior business figures including Suphachai Chearavanont, Senior Vice President of CP Group, and Saravuth Yuenyuttiya, CEO of Thai Red Bull (TCP), will share their China business expertise with attendees.

The BOI is facilitating two-way investment by not only attracting Chinese capital to Thailand but also helping Thai investors expand into China and find business partners. Over 40 Thai companies have pre-registered to participate in business matching sessions with interested Chinese counterparts. The participating businesses span strategic sectors including manufacturing, finance, retail, pharmaceuticals, and energy, represented by major Thai conglomerates such as CP Group, Thai Red Bull, PTT, SCG, Charoen Pokphand, and BDMS.

Following the Chengdu activities, the Prime Minister will continue to Beijing on July 20 for discussions with Chinese leadership on broader bilateral cooperation and mutual support.

30-Year-Old's Daily Fried Rice Diet Leads to Colon Cancer

A 30-year-old man diagnosed with colorectal cancer after eating fried rice boxed meals daily highlights rising cancer cases in younger people linked to high-fat, low-fiber diets and sedentary lifestyles.

30-Year-Old's Daily Fried Rice Diet Leads to Colon Cancer
9h ago Khaosod

A 30-year-old man who ate boxed meals containing fried pork or fried chicken almost daily was diagnosed with colorectal cancer after experiencing bloating and appetite loss for over six months. According to Dr. Jangchan Seawian, a gastrointestinal specialist at Sinkwang Hospital, colorectal cancer—which kills more than 7,000 people annually—is no longer a disease limited to the elderly; cases in people under 54 have risen from 11% to 20% in the United States.

The doctor warned that prolonged consumption of high-fat, low-fiber diets gradually accumulates damage to the intestines. He emphasized this is not an isolated case and recommended that those who eat outside regularly add vegetables to every meal. Beyond diet, prolonged sitting over eight hours daily without exercise increases mortality risk by 52%, but research shows just 150 minutes of brisk walking weekly—or about 22 minutes daily—can nearly eliminate the harmful effects of extended sitting. If people replace one hour of sitting with intense physical activity, mortality risk from heart disease and stroke drops by 64%. For those with limited time, activities like using stairs instead of elevators, power-intensive chores, or brief movement breaks every 30-60 minutes can also help reduce health risks.

Mother Questions Hospital After Newborn Dies Following Childbirth

A newborn died from oxygen deprivation and severe lung infection three days after a cesarean section at a Bangkok private hospital, prompting the mother to question whether anesthesia complications and delayed transfer to a second hospital

Mother Questions Hospital After Newborn Dies Following Childbirth
9h ago Khaosod

On July 17, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., the parents and grandmother of a newborn arrived at the Paveena Hongsukul Foundation for Children and Women in Pathum Thani province to file a complaint with Ms. Paveena Hongsukul. The mother, Ms. A (pseudonym), age 26, a construction worker from Phayao province, had registered for prenatal care at a private hospital in Bangkok's Prasat Charoen district using the Gold Card healthcare scheme. On July 4, 2026, when she arrived for her scheduled natural delivery, she had no labor pain and her cervix had not dilated; the ultrasound showed a healthy female fetus. She was rescheduled for July 7, then July 9 for a planned cesarean section.

On July 9 at 11:00 a.m., the mother entered the delivery room. The doctor attempted an epidural block but could not find a vein because of her larger body frame (105 kg), so he switched to inhalation anesthesia. During the cesarean procedure, she suddenly regained consciousness. The doctor halted the surgery and administered additional anesthesia. She did not regain awareness until 3:00 p.m. Her husband inquired about the baby and was told the newborn had an abnormally rapid heartbeat and was in the pediatric ICU.

At 6:00 p.m., the baby showed no response and needed to be transferred to a second hospital in Bangkok. Although the transfer was supposed to occur at midnight on July 10, it did not happen until 3:00 a.m., with the second hospital's doctor questioning the delay. On July 11 at midnight, the second hospital informed the mother that the baby had died from oxygen deprivation and severe lung infection. The death certificate, however, listed "pulmonary hypertension" as the cause of death. The mother and family suspect the interrupted anesthesia during surgery, the repeated anesthesia administration, and the delayed transfer may have contributed to their daughter's death. When they asked the first hospital staff for an explanation, they were told the child had aspirated amniotic fluid.

Chinese Woman Arrested in Bangkok on Bribery and Corruption Charges
9h ago Khaosod

On July 17, 2025, Thai immigration police arrested a 42-year-old Chinese national identified as Mrs. Wang at a luxury penthouse condominium in the Lumpini area of Bangkok's Pathumwan district, renting for 270,000 baht per month. She was wanted under an arrest warrant issued by the Longdang District Prosecutor's Office in Kaifeng, China, for charges of bribery and corruption.

According to Chinese investigations, Mrs. Wang was appointed Executive Vice General Manager of China State Construction Investment Capital in September 2020 before submitting a resignation letter in October 2022 without approval. Authorities found that she abused her authority to benefit a related private company and accepted bribes of 300,000 yuan jointly with her spouse. She was also accused of illegally embezzling 750,000 yuan in state assets, which she used to purchase real estate for personal gain.

The case was referred to the Longdang District Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision in June 2025, and the prosecutor's office approved her arrest warrant in July 2025. Mrs. Wang fled to Thailand on June 11, 2024, and was living under a Thailand Privilege Card visa valid until June 10, 2025. Thai authorities have suspended her residency permit and are preparing to initiate extradition proceedings to return her to China for prosecution.

Wild Elephant Raids Restaurant, Damages Property in Nakhon Ratchasima

A wild elephant nicknamed "Pa Duan" raided a restaurant in Nakhon Ratchasima early July 16, part of a series of nighttime incidents in the area caused by food shortages in nearby forests.

Wild Elephant Raids Restaurant, Damages Property in Nakhon Ratchasima
9h ago Khaosod

A startling incident occurred in the early morning of July 16 when a well-known wild elephant nicknamed "Pa Duan" broke into a roadside restaurant along Thanarat Road in Moo Si subdistrict, Pak Chong district, Nakhon Ratchasima. The large male elephant, standing approximately 3.2 meters tall and weighing over 5 tons, was searching for food and later crossed the road into a nearby forest. Volunteers from the Khao Yai elephant management team had to retreat as the elephant refused to cooperate during the relocation effort.

Another incident that same night involved a different elephant that damaged a vehicle at a resort on Thanarat Road, smashing the rear bumper, back window, and fender of a black Toyota sedan. A third elephant incident was reported early the next morning when a wild elephant entered a shop opposite Khao Wong Temple and was successfully pushed back into a dragon fruit garden without causing significant damage, though some food items were scattered.

Phra Achan Kampan, abbot of Moo Si Temple and chairman of the Khao Yai Wildlife and Environment Conservation Group, explained that the escalating incidents stem from natural climatic variations that have disrupted seasonal crop yields in the forest. This shortage is driving elephants to venture into nearby agricultural areas and communities in search of food, creating an increasingly serious and widespread problem.

Commerce Ministry Mobilizes Major Buyers to Support Coconut Farmers
9h ago Khaosod

Wityakorn Maneenat, Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, announced that the Commerce Ministry is accelerating relief measures for coconut farmers hit by falling coconut prices. Active measures include slowing coconut imports and coordinating with 13 coconut processing factories and major raw-material users across the country to increase purchases from Thai farmers, absorb surplus production currently flooding the market, and help stabilize domestic prices.

Since discussions began in May, the department has connected factories to purchase from major production areas in multiple provinces to quickly clear inventory and create ongoing market support. Thephudung Coconut Company Limited, producer of the Chao Kao brand, has been purchasing daily from May 2 to July 15, 2569, using over 30 million coconuts from provinces including Prachuap Khiri Khan, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Pattani, Narathiwat, Samut Songkhram, and Ratchaburi.

Thai Agri Foods Public Company Limited, owner of the Aroi Dee brand, joined the effort by purchasing mature coconut meat from farmers at 24 baht per kilogram—about 4 baht above current market rates—targeting 175 tons daily for coconut milk production. Tropicana Oil Company Limited also purchases organic coconuts at 15 baht per kilogram, buying approximately 50,000 nuts monthly for two months to channel supply into the growing health-product market.

Wityakorn stated that cooperation from these three companies will significantly increase domestic coconut purchases, reduce supply pressure during peak harvest, stabilize prices, and reassure farmers of continuous market support. The Internal Trade Department will also compile farmer proposals for the Oil Crop and Plant Oil Committee to consider appropriate price-stabilization measures and system-wide balance through coordinated support with relevant agencies.

Cafe Drama: Woman Uncomfortable Eating While Coworkers Work in Silence
9h ago Khaosod

A Malaysian woman shared her uncomfortable experience of being stared at in a popular cafe simply for eating a meal while other customers worked quietly on laptops, sparking online debate about shared space etiquette and the prevalence of laptop culture in public areas. She observed that of seven occupied tables in the cafe, only hers was actively dining—the rest were customers working on laptops.

Feeling Guilty for Simply Eating The woman explained that other patrons ordered only beverages before settling in to work, creating such a silent atmosphere that the clink of her spoon and fork against her plate drew disapproving stares from nearby customers. "I felt guilty for actually eating," she said. "Every time my utensil hit the plate, I could feel the nearby customers staring at me. It made me uncomfortable throughout the entire meal." She was especially disappointed because this cafe had long been her beloved refuge during difficult times in life, such as after heartbreak, with food that carried cherished memories and emotional healing. But the tense atmosphere this time prevented her from enjoying her meal and left her frustrated.

From Dining Space to Work Space She humorously observed that the cafe had become so quiet that new customers walking in had to cautiously survey the atmosphere before daring to speak. She noted the ground floor near the counter felt more relaxed, while the upper floor was almost entirely occupied by people working on laptops and electronic devices. Even teenage couples on dates had to whisper to each other.

After the post went viral, many expressed sympathy and understanding, while others argued that customers have the right to work in cafes as long as they make purchases and follow the establishment's rules. The debate thus became a discussion about balancing the use of cafes as workspaces with their role as dining and relaxation destinations for all patrons.
