PM Anutin Says Scheduling New No-Confidence Debate Difficult
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul says scheduling a new no-confidence debate is difficult because cabinet ministers have cleared next week but face a packed November of international summits. He stated the government is ready to debate starting Monday, October 26, and left the final date decision to the House Speaker.
Speaking at Sanam Luang at 7:30 a.m. on October 24, 2026, Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told reporters that the government's position on a new no-confidence debate rests with the House Speaker. Both sides have already met, but their conditions do not align, and the Speaker insists on his terms. When asked about his busy November schedule, Anutin said reporters should ask the Speaker. He noted that the cabinet is actually free next week, starting Monday, and all ministers — especially those targeted in the debate — have cleared their calendars. Since the opposition has not agreed, the government must find a new date, which is difficult due to the upcoming APEC 2026 leaders' meeting in Shenzhen, China, the 49th ASEAN Summit in Manila, a visit by the Chinese Premier, and a Thai-OECD joint working group meeting. Anutin emphasized that next week is truly the only open window; the cabinet meeting was even moved to Monday morning, October 26, to free up another day for debate. When pressed on whether he personally has time, he replied, "It's difficult." He added he does not know what timeframe to target because each minister has duties, though all have postponed work to wait for next week. The Speaker will likely negotiate further, as he said the matter is now in his hands. Asked if the debate might not happen at all, Anutin said he does not know, stressing the government is ready and wants the matter resolved.
